Duplicate Books

  Well it  seems like no one  is interested in good free books anymore,too bad. I'll list these three & than forget it.

 "The Empress of Farewells, The Story of Charlotte Empress of Mexico" by Prince Michael of Greece hard covered.

 "Once a Grand Duchess,Xenia Sister of Nicholas II, Van Der Kiste & Hall,soft.

 "The Romanov Legacy,The Palaces of St.Petersbug", by Belyakova hard covered coffee table book.

Felix -- I'd be happy to take The Romanov Legacy off your hands!

  I'll repost the last book, in case people may have missed it. "Enchantress,Marthe Bibesco and Her World". Only English biography on her,very interesting for people who would like to read about Romania. She was a writer & friend of Marie & Ferdinand.

I'd love to take this one off your hands, Felix. Also the Empress of Farewells it it hasn't been claimed. I would've pounced on The Romanov Legacy,The Palaces of St.Petersbug if dear Sarushka hadn't beaten me to it! (Darn job!  )

I have Inside the Russian Revolution by Rheta Childe Dorr. It was published in 1918 and is in very good shape except for a loose first page.The author was in Russia from May 1917 and it is her impressions. She visisted Grand Duchess Elizabeth and there's some info on her and the convent (which is why I purchased the book). It has a very female-centric focus.

Please keep posting.  I just forget to check this thread as often as I should.  All of the books that you listed, I already had and The Empress of Farewells I received from Koloagirl last year through this wonderful resource.

I have sent out two books to others and I know that they have enjoyed them.

I rarely get duplicates myself, because no one in my family who would give me books will even try anymore and I have a great data base that keeps me informed about what I have so I won't buy duplicates (like I did in the past) myself.

I would, however, like to get Education of a Princess by that brat Maria Pavlovna.

But I just received a windfall of books from the library of a friend of my mother's who passed away and passed her books on to me.  I have so many lined up to read and so little time. Most of her books were not Romanov, but were interesting biographies of other well known people like Clementine Churchill and the DuPonts of Delaware and the Astors.

I still have Blood Relative courtesy of Phil Tomaselli and I have not even had time to look into it yet!

This is such a wonderful resource but I would like to ask one thing that has been on my mind since I first read this thread.  When I send out a book, I never ask for a refund of postage.  Is that the usual way?  I wouldn't want to receive a book and not reimburse the sender if that is the rule.

Would someone answer on the thread?

I don't think there's any hard and fast rule. Some folks swap books, so the postage is roughly even. A few people like Koloagirl will trade goodies from far-flung corners of the world (like Hawaii). Others will ask outright for postage when the book is put up for grabs, or specify how far they're willing to send it for free -- "Europe only" or "North America."

So you can just play it by ear. But in general, it never hurts to offer to ante up for postage if you're on the receiving end of a freebie.

I am very, very grateful to you Felix for starting this thread up. I have been so lucky to receive many kind books from AP members, and send some out as well.
Another thing that I have gained from this thread is good true friends. If it wasn't for this thread I might not have made contact with as many members of the AP, and I sure know that I am very lucky to have done so.

When the thread started, Felix sent me his duplicates for free, so I followed. I really think it's up to the person who is giving away their duplicates. I once saw a film called "Pay it forward", where if someone does something nice to you, you do something nice for three other people, and so on and so forth. I suppose I see this thread as a pay it forward thread, When I got books from someone, I then posted my duplicates and send them out. Mind you, this is just how I do it. There really is no rule set in stone.

  I should have mentioned  this earlier, the books on Charlotte, Xenia, & the Palaces were from "Arlene".

I feel as Laura does and have not asked for postage when I send out a book because I feel that it is "paying forward".

However, if anyone ever does want the postage to be reimbursed, please put that in your pm.  As I said, I would hate to not reimburse a sender if that is a condition for them.

Phil Tomaselli sent me Blood Relative  all the way from the UK to the US, but he had said before hand not to send any reimbursement for postage.

When I sent my first book out, the receiver asked again and again if I wanted her to repay the postage, but I told her no.  Sometimes the amount is not all that large in the grand scheme of things and I just love knowing that the books have a good home.

Felix is a doll, he and I have even borrowed from each other and then returned them when we were finished reading them.  But I would say that would be frought with lots of dangers unless you know the person WELL! 

In the beginning I would send the postage back to the sender, I am very weird about obligations, but after a while it seemed to work better not to.....just reciprocate by sending them something in return sometime.

Felix, may I once again impose on your kind nature for the Marie Antoinette book if it isn't already snapped up -- I as always, will be happy to send you something rare and exotic (LOL) from the wild tropics that I live in! 

I am going to a big library booksale tomorrow -- I'll have all of you in mind and snap up ones that I think folks here would enjoy -- so watch here next week!
