Here's a Romanian one, "Enchantress,Marthe Bibesco and Her World" by Christine Sutherland. I think it's the only English-language
biography of her.

Pity that the people who paid you for books haven't been amazed, thankful or surprised to receive theirs...

Don't worry, Art, I have lots of time on my hands, so I will continuously remind you that you owe people money, until you refund it to them :-)

Be careful Helen...you are beginning to enter dangerous territory.

Arturo

Instead of responding to my posts, why not respond to your customer's concerns, Art? You can easily make things right, just refund them their money and it will be all over.  Why change the subject and concentrate on me, when you have all these angry people you need to answer to?

Because you are not involved in this and you are not going to dictate policy to the rest of us...perhaps if you had something else to do...as you yourself say you have plenty of time...you would spend so much time meddling in other people's business and causing trouble.

You do not know how many people order the book...you do not know how many already got it from the first box, you certainly ignore my correspondence with them...and I am not going to reveal it as it is none of your business. Ms Mabee has the option to obtain her money if she wants not to wait any longer. That is her choice and hers alone...not yours, one of your business.

Bes regards,

As a matter of fact Ms Mabee would like her money back, so how about you send it to her? Ms Mabee is too nice to expose you like this, but even she was pushed to her limit. But I am not as nice, and I have no qualms exposing you... I am part of this forum and a lot of the members here are my friends, and I really hate to see my friends cheated. Especially by the likes of you. Ms Mabee is my friend and I like her very much, which makes this my business. Consider me her representative and also of the others whose money you have. So how about it, are you going to refund Ms Mabee and others or are you going to just continue this back and forth nonsense?

I will remind all posters to keep their public postings to public discussion of the topic and private discussion to PM or email. We don't need this public discussion of threats or whatever.

Rob, the problem is that members of this Forum who, in good faith, subscribed to Mr Beeche's 'publishing house', shelled out over $500 each in January 2007 - i.e. over a year ago, are failing to get any response from Mr Beeche.   If truth be told, they fear confrontation and reading these posts and the ones on the other thread, one can fully understand why.   HelenA is fearless and loyal and I LOATHE injustice (as well you know) - so what's our alternative?

As a result, in extremis, they have been left with no alternative but to bring the subject into the public domain - the Alexander Palace Discussion Forum - in the hope of being reimbursed by their debtor.

Don't get me wrong, Rob, I feel terribly, terribly sorry for you and for Bob having to cope with this extremely unpleasant issue... and issue  which has been thrust upon you and which is of no fault of either your's or Bob's.  In fact I KNOW how upset both of you will be and I want everyone else who comes here to know that too.

Both of you are victims of injustice - just like the people who too have trusted and are paying a high price.

I'm all in favor of Laura, Ortino, and others' dispute with Eurohistory finding resolution -- with the help of the forum, if necessary -- but I'd also hope we don't have to clutter up other threads to do so....

OK.

Been trying NOT to get dragged into this, but seem to be forced. There is NO evidence so far that people are being cheated or "scammed".  So far, the one person who wanted a refund is getting one. To be honest, the length of time seems excessive to me, as Bob buys books from Russia regularly, and they never take nearly that long to arrive, nor is DHL exorbitantly priced.  THAT SAID, I don't know Art's business, or the communications to or from his customers either. Art doesn't pay for advertising, we have allowed him to announce publications here simply as a courtesy to interested users.  Some of our close friends have published through him with good experience in years past.

I simply CAN'T sit in judgment without further information. My attitude is that Art should gladly refund anyone's money who has waited over a year simply by the customer asking for a refund.  That is the professional thing to do.  Now, if someone wants their money back, and can't get it, thats a different kettle of fish...so far, nobody has said they have been refused a refund.

I think this is reasonable...

Kudos to Helen for making lemonade out of lemons for facilitating the acquisition of this wonderful and rare book, why not just rise above petty name calling and do the right thing?
