Hi!

While looking through the Vanity Fair issue from September 2003 I found a picture of this prince, of whom I never heard of before. Maybe somebody knows more about him, e.g. what he is studying etc. And, as always, pictures are very welcome! :)
Thanks!

I have found a picture of Prince Boris of Montenegro. He seems to be a very handsome guy! I too would like to know more about him! Maybe somebody out there could tell us more about him? ::)

[size=14]If my memory is correct, Hereditary Prince Boris (born at Les Lilas, France on 21 January 1980) is either a photographer or an artist who was graduated from l'École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratif (Paris, France) in June 2005. The Hereditary Prince holds the additional titles of Grand Duke of Grahovo and Zetà; Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Danilo I and Knight of the Order of Saint Peter.

Bertrand,

Go to your local libray and see if they have it.  This 2003 issue was the famous Royal issue.  The whole issue was nothing but coverage of Royalty.  Every Royal can you imagine!!!!  It is worth the trip & hunt to the local library.  I have two copies-one very worn and one sealed in a plastic zip-lock bag!!!!

Good luck and Good reading!!!

Dear All:

David, your memory is correct! H.R.H. Hereditary Prince Boris Petrovic Njegos (Les Lilas, France 21.I.1980) was effectively graduated at the session of June 2005 from the "École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratif" (Paris, France), one of the most famous French school in decorative arts; during his studies, he was particularly involved in the creation of computerised typography. Since 21.I.2001, he assumes the title of Grand Voivode of Grahovo and Zeta and he is also Deputy Grand Master of the Montenegrin Order of Danilo I (formally since the reorganisation of the Order on November 11, 2004). He is Grand Cross of this Order (his father, H.R.H. Crown Prince Nikola, is the Grand Master), Order of Saint Petar of Cetinje (Dynastic Order of the Petrovic Njegos Family), and Grand Cross of the Order of Sts. Maurice and Lazarus (House of Savoy).

Prince Boris has an elder sister, H.R.H. Princess Altinaï of Montenegro (Les Lilas, France 27.X.1977), who studies at Le Fresnoy National Studio (France), promotion Jean-Luc Godard 2004/2006, a post-graduate school of art and audio-visual. As part of her studies, in 2005, she produced a 24-minute short-length film, "L'art de la Fugue" (The Art of Fugue), presented at several festivals: the 58th Locarno International Film Festival (Italy), the Festival "Alternative Film/Video 2005" (Belgrade, SCG). In 1995, she also had a minor role in the French full-length film "Le Fils de Gascogne" (The son of Gascogne) by Pascal Aubier. Princess Altinaï is Dame Grand Cross of the Order of Danilo I, Order of St. Peter, and Dame Grand Cross of the Order of Sts. Maurice and Lazarus.

Does anyone have more Pictures and Information on Anna of Montenegro/Battenberg and her Husband Franz-Josef von Battenberg?  It is very little what I can find on them/him what goes beyond Franz-Josefs childhood, supporting his brother Sandro in Bulgaria etc. I need more info of the couple itself, marriage etc. (I know where they lived and died and where they are burried)
Thanks

Of the top of my head, I think they were always limited financially, but other members of the family enjoyed gathering at their home and spending "down" time with them.  I think they were both well thought of, especially Anna, who lived a very long time.  I will get out my Mountbatten books and write more tomorrow.

There seems to be not an overabundance of information about Anna, but lots of bits and pieces in various different books.

From Hugo Vickers' Alice: Princess Andrew of Greece:

On their marriage:  In 1896, while Queen Victoria was on her annual spring holiday to the French Riviera, she was accompanied by Louis, Victoria, Alice, the recently widowed Beatrice and her 4 children.  "One afternoon the royal party went to La Turbie with [Franz of Battenberg] and Princess Anna of Montenegro.  While most of them went to a booth containing a "camera obscura", Franzjos and Anna slipped away from the main party.  Soon afterwards, at breakfast, Louis announced their engagement and presently Anna's wily father, Prince Nikola, arrived to charm Queen Victoria."

On their exile:  Up until the war, Prince Franz Josef of Battenberg, who was scholastically inclined, and his wife Anna spent some time at Prinz Emils Garten.  "But at the outbreak, they were outside Germany and Ernie advised them not to return.  Later Ernie gave Franzjos permission to come back, but he decided not to.  When Italy joined the war, he and Anna found themselves permanent exiles.  They settled in Switzerland, where he pursued academic studies.  They had never been prosperous, and now their fortunes went into sharp decline.  By August 1916, Franzjos was described as "awfully badly off.""

Also from Vickers:

On later finances:  Franz Josef died in 1924.  "Edwina [Mountbatten], who, though she had never met him, had been sending him an allowance and continued to send money to his widow Anna until her [Edwina's] own death in 1960."

In July of 1930, Anna was living at Stein-am-Rhein, and visited Alice.

After the death of Victoria Milford-Haven, her children were concerned about the will-being of their Aunt Anna, who would only accept money from Battenbergs.

When Alice died in 1969, one of the messages came from her old Aunt Anna in her room at Territet.

Anna died at Montreux on April 22, 1971, aged 96.  For many years, she was the oldest European princess.
