The book on Nikola and Milena is lovely and lavishly illustrated! He was such a maverick and the family seems to have been really tight knit and devoted to one another!

Montenegro is now well on the way to joining the EU. It is due to gain entry in 2015 along with Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia and Turkey.

Hello,
Hereditary prince Boris of Montenegro had a girl on february, 11, at 4h, in the Maternité des Lilas (Paris region) . the little princess will bore the title of "Princesse Petrovitch Njegosch de Montenegro" and will be named "Milena" as her ancestor (?!) queen Milena of Montenegro (1847+1923). The mother is Véronique Haillot Canas da Silva (born on july, 27, 1976 in São Sebastiéão da Pedreira, Lisbonne).

It seems that they are not.  Véronique Haillot Canas de Silva is the daughter of an ingeneer. That's what i know.

Surely they must be married, or else the baby would not have the title of HH Princess Milena Petrovic-Njegos of Montenegro.

Are there any photos at all of Boris, his wife and baby? They are so low profile!!

So they are married, apparently got married on the 12th of May last year in Portugal, although no one heard about it. And Veronique has the title of HRH The Hereditary Princess of Montenegro, and Grand Duchess of Grahovo and Zeta as well I suppose. If Boris does not have a son that is the end of the Royal Line of Petrovic-Njegos dynasty. Milena is a great choice of name for the baby I think.

I'm sure the dynastic rights can pass to a princess in these more liberal times eh?

I'm searching for information about Princess Marija, who died at Smolni of TB in 1885.  There is not much information about her in NIKOLA AND MILENA.   Does anyone know where she was buried?  Was she taken back to Cetinje?

Thank you!

No she wouldn't be allowed to because of the Royal House Rules, Boris is last in line to the Montenegrin throne. There are no other male line descendents of King Nicholas I.

Hello! I have found this old postcard searching through ebay...

The man is prince Mirko of Montenegro, and the woman, his wife, Natalija. If I´m not wrong, she was related to the serbian Obrenovics. I would like to know more about Natalija, since I can´t find information in the net...

Thanks a lot.

Natalija was a second cousin to King Alexander of Serbia (1876-1903) who along with his wife Queen Draga were assassinated in Belgrade 10 Jun 1903. Natalija's paternal grandmother Anna Obrenovic (1821-1868) and King Alexander of Serbia's grandfather Milosh Obrenovic (1829-1861) were sister/brother.

Natalie and Mirko's marriage ended in divorce after 15 years (1902-1917). They had 5 children, Stephan, Stanislav and Michael (the present claimaint to the throne is his child, I think)), Pavel and Emmanuel. Only Michael lived to any great age--the other 4 sons predeceased their mother. Stephan and Stanislav died of illness 2 months apart. Almost exactly 9 months after Stanislav's death (he preceded Stephan), Natalie gave birth to Michael. Mirko died in 1918 while Natalie lived until 1950. Natalie settled in England and France after the Montenegrin throne was lost.
