Absolutely near to island.

A fascinating investigation of the dog graves on the Children's Island along with much more information:

I'd never seen a photo taken where you could see the ropes with which to pull oneself over (on the raft) to the island!

I think I remember us discussing that photo a while back and deciding that yes, it is photoshopped. I also inserted that blog posted by Joanna into Babelfish to get a translation (fairly inaccurate, I know, but it worked) and a couple of people commented on that as well.

You're welcome. It's too bad that Babelfish can't give more accurate translations. They're pretty broken, but at least they get the point across.

Thanks Marie-Catherine and EmmyLee for the information on the second photograph. Do you have a link to discussion of it as I cannot find it? I do not understand what it means of "photoshopped" and must be only one here who has no idea of how to identify a photo like that.

"Photoshopped" refers to a picture that has been altered or manipulated. The term comes from the name of a photography software program, and has become slang for any photo that's been changed, regardless of the method. Technically, to avoid confusion a photograph such as this one that was altered prior to the computer age should be called "retouched." ; )

If anyone's interested, we could start a thread of vintage retouched photos on the Imperial Family boards to showcase turn-of-the-century photo alterations...

Even though the site is vandalized and run down there is still such a lot of charm and potential! Thank you to all of those that posted photographs on page four! :)

Marie-Catherine and Emmylee

Can you tell me what part of the photo #2 is retouched? Or what you see on the photo that may not be original - the actual things that you see. I can't figure out what may not be real - it looks ok to me but I don't know what to judge it by.

Thanks so much
Cathy
