How did Shervashidze die? Was his death natural? He was 73 years old at the time he died.

Did the Dowager Empress correspond often with her sister Thyra, brother Valdemar, or her nieces and nephews

The Empress often corresponded with her sisters, brother Waldemar and nieces. The phraze "I was writing to Waldemar", for example, is a frequent one in her diaries of 1914-1919 years.

Besides Countess Mengden, the Dowager Empress had another lady in waiting, Countess Olga Alexandrovna Heyden. According to "Little Mother of Russia", Countess Heyden was with the Dowager Empress in Kiev before her flight to the Crimea. I was wondering if anyone knew what became of Countess Heyden after the revolution.

Seemed the Empress and Olga Heyden had a sort of quarrel in Kiev, and Olga left Kiev.

Nice to know that the british royal family helped their later years in exile with small pensions.

I wonder if this was the same Countess who in her picture album,Queen Alexandras lady in waiting Louisa Countess of Antrim wrote "died of starvation during the russian revolution"

A Royal Family - The Story of Christian IX and his European descendants, by Anna Lerche and Marcus Mandal ISBN 87-15-10957-7 - chapter entitled 'Love and Revolution - Maria Feodorovna's Fate during the Greatness and Fall of the Russian Empire' - an excellent account with privileged access to private royal archives and interviews with members of various European Royal Families

Eddie, I have this book and although a nice volume, IMO it is not worth that much.  [almost $300 US] As I recall, I  purchased the video and the book for less than 40 pounds UK. Thanks for  the info on my investment !!!!! I bought mine  via one of the royalty magazines. Must be a true "limited edition".

My pleasure, Eddie.  The   video/DVD was broadcast on ITV, I think, Can't find it at the moment. It is mainly about the Danish royal family and the former King of the Hellenes. The book is much more informative, again- IMO
