Dear Alex,

Thank you for your kind words of welcome.

I'm impressed by the way you explain as to how a Russian Orthodox panihikda should be conducted.

Although not just an inspiring little blessing, beautifull as they can be,and being aware that HIM already
had a service with all the rites of a full religious/state funeral, remains the fact that that service took place
in Danmark, not on Holy Russian Soil,so wouldnt there be  "more adjustments" to the service at St.Peter and Paul?

Btw,in my previous post I mentioned the Metropolitan but I mean the Patriarch, ofcourse. He seems to be
a person with influence if not power,I only question his good use of it,and to whom's better interest?

I look forward to your thoughts in writing,
regards,Lucien.

Bien cher Lucien,

I meant to answer your post earlier but was caught in business goings-on here in Shanghai.  Please forgive me.  In any case, tonight as a very decent evening to write.  The torrid Shanghai summer has finally passed (we limped through 8 weeks of 42 C.) and pre-autumn late summer nights are here -- beautiful moonviews, cool breezes and brilliant sunshine during the day.

In any case, to the subject at hand.  As I mentioned, the Patriarch was born Alexis von Redinger.   His grandfather was Baron von Redinger.  He would have thus been Baron von Rediger.  With the strengthening of the new regime in Russia, he is more and more displaying  his true feelings.  He is actually a person to be reckoned with.  He recently organized a three-day symposium on the Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovitch; he recently organized an Exposition in Moscow dedicated to the Paintings of the Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna; he receives the Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna on an on-going basis, about once every two months and ensures that she receives the maximum press coverage when she is there; during the events last year for the celebration of St. Seraphim of Sarov, in the presence of all of the guests in church, during his homily in which he addresses the audience, he specifically referred to the President of the Republic first, and to Her Imperial Highness, the Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna and then to the all of the assembled very high church dignitaries, foreign guests, etc,. etc; during the canonisation of the New Martyrs at Christ the Saviour Cathedral soon five years ago this month, the Patriarch gave the Grand Duchess a special place among the dignitaries at the service, next to the Mayor of Moscow and the wife of the President of the Republic.  Actions, in my opinion, speak louder than words.

In my opinion, there is no question as to where the Patriarch stands on this issue.  Macedonsky may feel otherwise; I do not.  That is why I raised the question :  will it be the Grand Duchess as the Head of the House of Romanov -- to use the very terms His Holiness uses -- they are NOT mine -- or will it be someone else.

Your comments, please.

With all of the best,

A.A.

Dear Alex,

I'm truly embarassed by how long it took me to reply to your fascinating/intruiging account on the Patriarch.
Please,do forgive me,and don't have me shanghaied?

Allthough 8 weeks of blistering summer heat is quite over the edge,I would gladly have enjoyed a week of it as Summer never really materialised here.Change of seasons was taken too litterarely,we have fall first or so it seems.

Alexis von Redinger.
Did his grandfather play any role in Imperial Russia, and if,which?
By your account of the person,I would think the man has an hidden agenda of sorts, but will he get away with it in the long run?

The homily.
On itself not so out of the ordinary to first mention the attending Head of State,Wladimir Putin, and then the other illustrious guest,ie,the Grand Duchess Maria Wladimirovna.But.
I'm sure the Patriarch does everything to profile himself as a person with an over the edge sense of selfimportance, and the Grand Duchess, almost equally eager to profile herself, seems to tripple along like a horse and carriage.

Her Imperial Highness The Grand Duchess is the choosen member of the IF to be in attendance next year september, the Patriarch has made that more then clear by his acts,as he recognizes her status, and thus profiles his own.

The Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovitsch,as I  know close to nothing on him,who was he,what made him the center of a symposium, and what was the result?

Must have been an interesting exhibition, the Paintings of the Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna.I would fully support ways to ensure that Russia comes to know more about its glorious past and those that molded it.But as it was organised by the Patriarch Alexis, once again,to who's better interest?

If the reburial of HIM is not to be "delayed" again with whatever excuse comes first,I'm sure we will all see hear a lot of grumbling by other family members beforehand,as they've never failed to do so in the past.
Really hope dignity rules.

My very best to you Alex,Cpacibo!
Lucien.

Dear Lucien,

I'll respond in more detail later...let me correct MY own little error, which I have since corrected in the original posting...

I meant the Grand Duke Sergie Alexandrovitch...proctite p-l--a.

Be back later and thanks for the great posting.

Lucien - where are you from?

It is muggy and rainy here in New Hampshire, USA.  It has been very hot and muggy.  I so look forward to the fall.

Alex - please do share details on the symposium on GD Sergei Alexandrovich.  He has always intrigued me.

I would love to see a good biography on the Son's of Alexander II.  Including Sergei and Alexis.

Best,
dca

Here is a photo of Empress Maria lying in state in the Garden Room at Hvidøre taken shortly after she died (October 13, 1928 ):

I don’t recall having seen a Romanov Family group photo taken in Copenhagen. Maybe there was none, as some of them were barely on speaking terms which each other...Here are 2 photos I have:

Arrival of King Christian X (right) and Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark (middle)  at the funeral in Copenhagen (Oct. 19):

Funeral procession in Roskilde where she was buried (Oct. 19):

More photos can probably be found in the Royal Danish Archives.

Wow, Really?
That doesn't look like Maria to me. I believe that it is.. it's just she looks so different.

I have seen this photo before, and it is her.  There is also one of her lying in her bed, dead that I have seen.

When I look at this photo it reminds of her mother, Queen Louise, amazingly so in my opinion.

I saw Maria's crypt in July 2005 in Roskilde Cathderal. It was open and there were no restrictions in viewing it. It was rather simple and beautiful. I have also seen her last resting place next to Alexander III in St.Peter and Paul Cathedral in St.Petersburg. It is identical to the other Romanov tombs apart from Alexandra II and his consort Maria. It is good to know she is now next to her Sascha.
