I guess MF's physical appearance is much more appealing to me.  Or maybe I've never really seen a pretty picture of her sister.  But MF was a very beautiful and lovely young woman.  Her beauty is the kind that would appeal to modern eyes like me, I suppose.

I have seen few good pictures of Princess Alexander, like I said the one that always stands out in my head is the one of her in coronation robes and crown. Never had I need a prettier 60 year old queen than her.

Empress Marie was very pretty and like her sister did age well, if you look at her picture for the 1903 costome ball, she looks about the same age as her daughter Xenia!

Both sisters were very pretty and one can see why so many feel in love with them.

The Coronation photographs of Queen Alexandra are severely touched up.  In this one book I have it shows her real look at age, what, fifty-seven?  I don't know, around 60.  I'll see if I can find the book and post it...

I just notice how pretty Dagmar was! In the picture of her posing with the Dog Queen Anne-Marie of Greece who was born a Danish princess bares a slight resemblance to Dagmar.

Do you think so?  Can't really see that myself...I love that photo of MF with the dog, it really is the most lovely image of her.  I also love the portrait that Brian posted on Nov 18th - thank you Brian, I've never seen that before, but who is the artist?

To be honest all of the Danish princesses were pretty in their own way!!! Maybe to others one was prettier than the other but to me they were all pretty at some point.

Oh, I don't know.  I don't think that Thyra was ever really able to compete with Alix and Dagmar in the looks department (or really any other, without wanting to be too unkind).
I assume that you were referring to Christian and Louise's daughters, Queen Ena?

Yes Martyn I was refering to Christian & Louise's children.  Do you or anyone else have any childhood photos of Maria Feodorovna with her family back in Denmark?

I have to agree with Queen Ena on this one.  I think all three of the Danish princesses were quite beautiful.  Actually, I think Dagmar and Thyra were prettier than Alexandra.  I have seen a gorgeous photo of Alexandra in The Camera and the Tsars, but I haven't seen any others that really struck me that she was more beautiful than her sisters.

Thank you Michelle for the support!!! History always puts a spotlight on Alexandra instead of giving all of the Danish princesses their credit.

You think that Thyra was prettier than Alexandra as an adult?

Not as a young adult, but as an older woman I think she had definitely aged the best. Alexandra and MF both looked rather enameled by the end, whereas Thyra (probably never having been overly-concerned for her looks as the 'plain' one) looked very lovely. She had the nice soft white hair (unlike MF and QA) which must've gone wonderfully with her deep blue eyes (usually considered her best feature).

Hmm good point.  You're right about Alix and Dagmar in later life, particularly Alix who seemed almost desperate to cling to her celebrated beauty (and did quite well at it!)  Thyra does look lovely in her later years and her white hair is very attractive; do you think that maybe her life was not that easy?

I read somewhere that Thyra`s hair turned grey at once in a one night after she had been told of her son`s Georg Wilhelm death in a car-accident.
