From left to right : "White row" of the Grand Duchesses - GDss Maria Alexandrovna, GDss Alexandra Iosifovna, GDss Maria Nikolayevna (aka Duchess of Leuchtenberg), possibly GDss Elena Pavlovna and her daughter GDss Ekaterina Mikhailovna. Then men - ?, Prince of Wales, Crownprince Friedrich of Prussia....

In front of the picture (at the right corner) -  2 little boys standing - looking at us GD Pavel, in profile his brother Sergei, next to them in profile GD Konstantin Nikolayevitch.

Yes, I bet Minnie and her parents hoped Freddie would pick the Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna.....
Then, Freddie would have been rich and MA would have ended up Queen of Denmark instead of Duchess of Coburg.

Certainly, Queen Victoria would have been happier with that arrangement!!

Indeed ! However Marie was not impressed by Freddy's pretty face and fell instead for Affie's dark and manly looks. However QV wasn't too displeased about Marie's wealth.

Oh that explains the design of the artwork then. Have you ever looked at the google archives Eric? They actually surpisly have alot Tsar articils from the 20 century. The downside is some of the articils you have to be a bloody member of New York Times.

The way they feel in love after Nixa and everything really makes me think he adored her. Alexander was the first fathful tsar to his wife and  obviously loved his wife and kids.

I think Alexander wanted a family and Dagmar coming from a united and happy family was able to provide that for him. Their holidays to Denmark was his only time "out of prison"...
