In their younger days, there were lots of minor flirtations of the younger members of the royal family with their cousins and extended family. The "wanted to marry" story could have evolved from one of those.

Yes. Toria fell for Nicky one Summer but a year later the magic wasn't there anymore. She also received a proposal of marriage from her cousin Prince Christian of Denmark (later King Christian X of Denmark), but she turned him down flat. Not sure which German prince. Her sister Maud fell for Max of Baden & Franz of Teck, but both came to nothing. She married Karl of Denmark, Christian's brother.

In more detail (download for larger) we see Toria surrounded by trinkets and pictures of her close family and relatives. Accompanied by what looks to be a handsome Portuguese Water dog. I've not seen him before, I wonder what trusty old Mac made of his new doggy friend
