I think it may be the uniform of the Ziethen Hussars. The Duke was Colonel-in-Chief in succession to his father-in-law Prince Friedrich Karl, and Alice of Athlone mentions that he liked wearing the uniform.

The only German unit I could find him affiliated with was as a Colonel in the 3rd Prussian (Zieten) Hussars.  He was also an honorary General in the German army.

I don't think their children was close to their German cousins though. Young Arthur told his cousin Charley of Albany to accept the Coburg throne for he will beat him up. It shows the family was very English.

Young Arthur did visit his cousin Friedrich Karl in hospital shortly before he died of wounds (see FK's mother's book).

Their first cousins on their mother's side would have been:

Sophie Charlotte of Oldenburg (later married the Kaiser's son Eitel Friedrich) by their Aunt Elizabeth
Viktoria Margarete, Friedrich Sigismund, Friedrich Karl, and Friedrich Leopold by their Uncle Friedrich Leopold
Olga, Marie of Saxe-Altenburg by their Aunt Marie

On wikipedia it states that the Duchess of Connaught was the first member of the Royal Family to be cremated. Is this true or are they confusing her with her sister-in-law Princess Louise?

Both were cremated.  I didn't know that Louise Margaret was until recently myself.

Here's the source: http://tinyurl.com/75s2dl6  (Who knew there was an encyclopedia devoted specifically to cremation?)

No problem!  :)

Louise Margaret died of a combination of bronchitis, measles, and influenza - specifically the Spanish Flu that killed millions during WWI.  She was one very sick lady when she passed away.  :(

I'm trying to work out who they all are. The first three are the Duke of Connaught, with Prince Arthur on one side and presumably Princess Patricia on the other. Behind them are George V and Queen Mary. After them I'm guessing a little, but probably Prince Albert, in naval uniform, and the Prince of Wales, in army uniform.

Lovely picture, thank you for sharing Keith!
I think Queen Mary is on George V's right & Queen Alexandra is on his left perhaps?

My pleasure.

According the caption it is Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, Princess Arthur followed by Queen Mary, King George and Queen Alexandra. No one else is mentioned. It seems to be 3 of the sons of King George and Queen Mary in the next row. Oddly, no mention of Princess Patricia and it doesn't look like anyone is on the other side of Prince Arthur. The original picture isn't quite clear enough for me to identify any of the ladies that follow, even the ones whose veils don't seem as dark.

I'm guessing that all of her sister-in-laws and neices that were in England at the time would have attended.

Yes. Although I can't point out any of Queen Victoria's surviving daughters in the line up. Maybe they were in church already or chose not to walk.
