Could they be among the veiled ladies immediately behind George V's sons?

Possibly...I think maybe Princesses Beatrice and Helena, they are quite big in old age.

Hope this works, never done this before. From British Pathe, newsreel of The Duchess's funeral. The first two ladies out of the chapel after the King's sons , could they possibly be Princess Maud and Princess Louise, Duchess of Fife? If so, possibly the other woman in the first row is Princess Victoria.

The next woman out on the left looks to me a bit older, possibly the Duchess of Argyll, as her figure was still trim.

Defiinitley not another person on the other side of Prince Arthur, so if the photo I have is captioned correctly, I can't figure out where Princess Patricia is. To me both she and Princess Arthur should be with The Duke and Prince Arthur right behind the casket.

Unfortunatley it stops before you can really see any of the next group of woman, to see figure wise if Helena, Beatrice and Helen Albany are there. As mentioned they were on the stout side by this time.

Does anyone know who deicedes who goes where in this type of procession? I'm curious as if the one lady is indeed The Duchess of Argyll behind the Kings sons, why her other two sisters wouldn't be in that grouping also. I know Arthur was closer to Louise, but still.

Unlikely to have been Princess Maud, as she would have been living in Norway at this time, and the U-boat war was very much on.

Yes I agree. No way it could be Maud.

Princess Maud (Princess Arthur's sister), not Queen Maud.

I think the comments like these are not helpful and do intimate people.  ::) ::) ::) If you ask people why they don't dare to post comments. You just answered them. Thank you very much.

A bit of confusion here between various royal ladies. The Connaught daughters were Margaret and Patricia. Margaret married the future Gustav VI of Sweden in 1905, so was in Sweden at the time of her mother's death. This presumably prevented her from attending the funeral.

The two 'royal Mauds' were Edward VII's daughter, Queen Maud of Norway (presumably also unable to attend the funeral), and Edward VII's granddaughter, Maud of Fife, who was Princess Arthur's younger sister.

So the question is, which of these ladies in veils is Princess Patricia, which Princess Arthur, and could one of the others be Maud of Fife.

I'm interested that George V's third son, the future Duke of Gloucester, was at the funeral in the uniform of Eton College Officer Training Corps (looking like a private soldier). Interesting too that he was already noticeably taller than his elder brothers.

We cannot be 100% sure unless we have the invite and attending list. Both Lady Patricia Ramsey & Princess Alexandra of Fife (Princess Arthur of Connaught) have to attend since it was their mother or mother-in-law. Not sure if Lady Carnegie attended (most likely she would have).

Princess Arthur can be seen in some of the stills coming out of the church with the Duke of Connaught and Prince Arthur. In magazines I have seen, Patricia is there--taller than just about any of the other women. Margaret (Daisy) was not present due to the war.

In the stills from the film (#36-39) it does indeed look like Louise and Maud Fife. In stills #40 & #41, it looks like Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll may be behind them.

Louise Connaught was cremated at Golder's Green and it's believed her ashes remained at the chapel until Frogmore's burial ground was consecrated in 1928. Louise, Duchess of Argyll was also cremated at Golder's Green.

Her funeral was also without large floral tributes, at the Duke's request, due to the war.

I am interested in the situation of their marriage at the end. They did appear to live separate lives

Received Robert Goldens "Definitely Royal ... more or less" today and he states that Princess Patricia did not attend her mothers funeral as she had the measles.
