He had a good relationship with the Chinese empress and had access to the Forbidden City, something others ambassadors, like the British or American, didn´t.

After the rebellion he drew up the treaty between China and the Western Powers, which was signed by the empress and the foreign ambassadors in the Spanish Embassy.

Isabel Preysler is a Spanish socialité of Filipino background. Born in Manila, her father Carlos Preysler y Pérez de Tagle belonged to a Filipino cadet branch of the Spanish marquises of Altamira. She became famous thanks to her marriage with singer Julio Iglesias. They had three children, including singer Enrique Iglesias. They divorced and she married secondly Carlos Falcó, marquis of Griñón. One daughter called Tamara Falcó. Divorced again and married a third time to Miguel Boyer, a former Spanish finance minister. They had a daughter called Ana Boyer.

Her husband Miguel Boyer died a couple of years ago and she is now dating Mario Vargas Llosa, a Peruvian writer who was the recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize for Literature and was created a marquis by King Juan Carlos of Spain.
