Outside the Ipatiev House
« on: February 15, 2005, 07:34:57 PM »
Hello. I have always wondered what this was. It looks religious;was it there before the Romanovs arrived or was it built for them by the villagers?

Thanks for looking.

It looks like a roadside shrine. There would be an icon inside and a place for candles no doubt. Apparantly fairly common in pre-Soviet Russia.

I think I read in Greg and Penny's book FOTR that it was a shrine to St Nicholas the Wonderworker.
