I just finished this book, by Helene Carrere d'Encausse.I think its a great book on NII. What do others think?

Oh, I tried to read this one and I found it a little boring. But I'm sure it's very accurate. I just thought it was re-hashing most of the stuff I'd already read.

Yea - same here - I can see it on my book case now and though I've picked it up to read a couple of times I can't seem to get into it...

I found this book to be one of the better books dealing honestly and sympathetically with Nikolai.

It is more a political interpretation than a basic biographic exercise which some readers may prefer.

I agree totally with Abby, I try occassionally to get through this book, but am not very successfull. Thankfully there is always other books that get in the way to divert me

Hi Felix,

Many of her books are published in French. However there are a few which are fortunately available in English. Most of what is available focuses on the soviet period including separate works on Stalin and Lenin.

I am unable to recommend any of them, because I have not read any of her other publications yet.

Why not check out Amazon, there might be something which you might like?

I just started reading it a few days back and I must say I am impressed.  I found it hard to put down.  It is a very informative work on Nicholas II including those around him.  Though I'm not finished with it yet, I figure I might as well say it is a must!  Anyone else read it?
