Interested in last days of the Grand Duke.Know he died in his married daughter's home in Schleswig in Nov 1945 after being ill-cancer?- for some time.Know too that the British forces arrived in Schwerin in May,1945.Had the Grand Ducal family already fled west or did they leave with the British when the Soviet border was ratified?.Know too that second son Christian Ludwig was arrested by Soviets & imprisoned for 10 years.What was the true story.Had he stayed to try & protect the family property or had he slipped back to rescue the family jewels that had been left behind.Will be interested to know the true events.

Does anyone have any information on Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III and his second wife's (Anna of Hesse) only daughter, Duchess Anna of Mecklenburg-Schwerin?  Her aunt, Alice of Hesse-Darmstadt (daughter of QV), writes of her visiting Hesse as a young child in 1867, being between the ages of her two eldest daughters.  She was born in 1865 and died in 1882, according to royaltyguide.nl, so she would have been about 17 or 18.  I've never seen any pictures of her.

Oops, Anna was actually younger than both of Alice's eldest daughters, because Ella was born in 1864.
