Thanks Violetta! Great pics!

yes, the Scwerin Castle is absolutely one of the most attractive anywhere. CP Cecilie speaks so fondly of it in her memoirs; when her family would go to the Italian riviera for long summer vacations, she yearned to get back to the castle and the hardwood forests and lakes in the area.

One of the most special aspects is the setting surrounded by water and the causeway entrance. Very, very fairytale-like.

This has all the appearance of being a 19th Century fantasy castle, have anything older survived? It does look most impressive, and evidently deserves to be better known; unfortunate perhaps that it was in the DDR, unlike the Bavarian equivalents.

yes, the structure was a wonderful collaboration among some of the best architects and artisans from Berlin, Schwerin, and Saxony in the early 19th century. The castle was built on the historic site of the former ducal residences.

She disliked not being in Russia and she disliked her husband. The castle was not enough to overcome her general dislike of her life.

I read somewhere that Anastasia Mikhailovna DIDN`T LOVE her husband but cosidered him to be her best friend

He lived a troubled life that AM did not seem to be very wiling or able to help reconcile. His death was by most views and accounts a suicide. I think it is fair to say his wife did not like him and resented the role she had to play for his position.

AM didn`t like germany and the duchy o mecklenburg-schwerin and spent her time in france or italy.after the death of her husband when she was no longer a grand duchess she felt free to live wherever she wanted.i read that wilhelm 2 wasn`t willing to invite her to berli due to her attitude to the thigs german.she came to berlin only twice:to cecilie`s wedding and baptizing of her first grandchild

that is correct. AM was a 'fish out of water' in schwerin and made very little attempt to disquise her feelings for the place or the man she was married to.

I was in Schwerin last week. I took some pictures of the beautiful Schwerin castle. This is one of the most beatiful buildings I`ve ever seen!!! I immedaitely fell i love with it.As soon as I saw it I became breathless. As simple as that. I`m posting some pictures from my visit, some of the pictures are almost identical but i can`t help posting them.I will post more pictures step by step.

Did you have a chance of tour inside the castle? Is it open for visitors?

Love to know if I were to visit. I don't think Anastasia hated him, but he most certainly loved her.
