Does anyone know if the Yussoupov sons were at this ball? If they were I'd love to see their costumes. I know they were young (16 and 21) but there are plenty of other young people there, Anna V. and her sister, and that guy's daughter in the last post, so maybe? Felix gave an account of how his mother danced to 5 curtain calls, was he there or did he just hear the story? Also Zenaida danced with Sandro, any pics of that?

Do you know why he was in England ???

I know he would not be in Oxford for several more years. His brother attended U of St. Petersburg so he should have been around too. Were they in England on a visit or something?

Oh and thanks again for all your great pics, especially the color ones! :)

Yes I love that book! But I thought he went to the Gourovich school in St. Petersburg until he went to Oxford after his brother's death in 1908? Was there another English school he went to?

I can't remember exactly... But I had a quick look at the book and he said that in 1902, his parents sent him in Italia... maybe he was there?

I'm showing my ignorance here!  I can't read Russian and both of the websites listed are in that language.  Where can I locate a copy of "Costume Ball of 1903" or an English website that lists it.  Thanks!

Here is Alexandra Alexandrovna Taneeva:

...and the photo with Anna Vyrubova, compare:

they're wearing the same crown. [the argument is that this is the same person and not her cousin in the second one if i'm correct]. it looks like alexandra. in the second picture she just removed her coat.

Is there references to the tailors who helped with the designs of the costumes?  The items in the musuem in which the designs were made?  What exact fabrics and embellishments were used?  Where they trying to aim for correct period outfits or just to have fun during a special occasion?
