Is there a source which tells us how tall  Marie/Maria  was  anytime between  1917 and the time of her death?

No, but we can infer that she was taller than Nicholas from photos in 1917 but not as tall as Tatiana.  So around 5'7" is a good guess.

Which photo would you suggest  that shows Marie as tall, if not taller,  than  Nicholas II in 1917?

I think in this photo Maria is taller than Nicholas II, but I don't think she was the same height as Tatiana or Olga. Holly, is right Olga did have the lightlest hair out of the sisters. Maria's hair was light brownish. Anastasia I thought her hair was also light brown, then Tatiana's hair is very dark brown.

This photo was taken 4/17 Oct 1916 and the girls are not lined up as they are in the next  photo so heights are difficult to determine:


Nicholas II was 5 feet 7 inches tall.

About four months later:

This photo was taken in the Sping of 1917:


All the girls look about the same height as in the Oct. 1916 photo.

Tatiana who looks about 5 feet  6 inches - taller than Olga and Marie
Anastasia - shortest of the girls

5 feet and 6 iches:

There are 12 inches to 1 foot.

12 inches  X 5 feet  = 60 inches

60 inches  + 6  inches = 66 inches.

Go to the following site and write in 66 inches and convert to cm.

Thanks Bear, for sharing the covertion chart and the photo with their heights lined up. Looking at the photos you know that Tatiana is the tallest of the girls. Yes that is right Nicholas IIwas 5ft 7in tall. Tatiana I think she was 5ft 8-9 inches myself. Hey Maria, you know 5ft 7in is the American English Standard , and then Metric System= 158 cm. Nicholas II's height.

Yes that is quite cool. I would have never imagined that. Plus, they also have the documentaries and movies which they were in. OTMA having their own profiles on Imdb is quite surprising. It is like as if OTMA were movie stars... I wonder what height they have Alexei listed as? they could be mistaken with the height they provided on the website.

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but the whole stats idea is cool I think.

Getting back to Maria's hair, after seeing so many pictures of her again and again, I've noticed I have sort of similar hair, like the male equivalent to it. The coulour is generally just called light brown, and it tends to fluctuate between being more blonde or darker brown, usually depending on things like sunlight. But generally as it ages it settles somewhere on the spectrum (usually the darker side). "Cinnamon" is the way someone once described it to me. I personally really like this hair-type (sorry if that sounds self-flattering  ), and I really love Maria's hair  . Sorry for the gushing.

I also think Maria didn´t have just "brown" or "blond" hair. As you said it changes with the angle and quantity of light. Sophie Buxhoeveden wrote about Maria´s hair: Her hair had golden lights in it. So I tend to think she had "dark honey" hair. And BTW, I think she had the best hair of OTMA - masses and masses of that beautiful colour, wavy - even curly (S.B. "when it was cut after her illness in 1917, it curled naturally over her head.)

"Dark honey", that's another really good way to describe it that I've never heard before. I had a friend once who was embarrassed to find out my hair wasn't actually blonde . And yes, masses and masses of beautiful colour is definitely a good way to describe Maria's hair in a nutshell  .
