Well I don't know if it has been already asked (sorry if it is the case) but...
Before, they used to oblige left handed person to write with their right one.
So I was just wondering if Maria was right handed, left-handed, ambidextrous or was just taught to use her right hand over her left one?

I've read that she used her left hand to paint.  It's possible that she was cross-dominant, meaning that she may have used different hands for different tasks.  It's also possible that she was naturally inclined to write with her left hand, but that she was discouraged from doing so due to societal norms (as was the case with her cousin, Prince Albert, who later became King George VI).  If that was the case, she may have retained her left-handedness when she painted and sketched, since handedness related to artistic endeavors may not have been monitored as strictly.

I read that she was the apple of Nicholas' eye. I know he loved each of his children but apparently he did take a great shine on Maria.

It's also been said that he and Alix favorited Tatiana. Then it's said that Nicholas had something special for Anastasia.

 It's been said in several Romanov books that Marie's hair was blond and the lightest of OTMA. I could never see that because in her later teen photos her hair is definitely dark. Eventually I ran across photos of Marie as a toddler and child and in these her hair IS light. I believe it darkened as she grew older, which is often the case as children mature.

It also depends in the light available when they would taken photographies. Black and white pics needed much more light to show a blond hair,  with some red in it or more darker than a whitish Scandinavian blonde hair. Maria must have had darker hair when older, that's a fact. But maybe it was still blonde.

For example. When you sees a photo in black and white and a woman is wearing a green or red dress...you'll see it BLACK. It's the same with the "hair" thing. One of my great-grand aunties has a very light blonde hair, but sometimes, because of light, you'll see it plainly black...Colour photos are one of the better inventions of XX Century, no doubt!

It was a possiblity that Maria was going to be a hemophilia (sorry spelling) carrier.  Meaning that if she had a child it could be a good chance her child would have the disorder.

This was speculated after Maria had her tonsils taken out and she bleed pretty heavily during the operation.

It's a shame we can't know which of OTMA were hemophilia carriers. That would be interesting.

Yes, you're correct. Maria was born on 14/26 June, 1899. In the 19th centruy, the Russian calendar differed from ours by 12 days, but starting in 1900 the Russian calendar differed by 13 days. So if you want to observe Maria's birthday nowadays, it should be done on the 27th of June.

I'm pretty sure Maria's hair wasn't the lightest. I've always heard Olga's was the lightest, followed by Anastasia, Maria and Tatiana.
