Count Palen's group used to keep transcripts of the communications with the spirit world.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn ~ "The Gulag Archipelago" In the early 1920's.

Does anyone have a good idea on what he was refering to?

The context was about organisations that had records of spiritual contacts with the spirits of the departed.

Through I am assuming; mediums?

I do know that a Count Palen was a part of the 'Decemberists' plot. But how this would tie into paranormal phenomina....is abit of an mental stretch.

Thank you once again for any considerations!

"From the early twenties on, arrests were also made among groups of theosophists, mystics, spiritualists. (Count Palen's group used to keep official transcripts of its communications with the spirit world.)"

-The Gulag Archipelago

so i think then that count palen's group were either theosophists, mystics, or spiritualists judging from the context of this quote. in the nineteenth century it was very popular to have things like table rapping and communicating with the dead-a good example of the nobilty's fascination with this is found in tolstoy's anna karenina. they'd get together with mediums and have seances and such. count palen just probably wrote down what the spirits "said" during the whole thing.

my two cents.

Thank You Anastasia.

It struck me that the whole of Russia was grounded in a strong spiritual culture. The suprise to me is the influence of the spiritual in the Soviet rule afterwards...how it assumed the mantle of 'Mother Russia'.

Thank You again.
