Does anyone know where I can find a picture of the pink pearl engagement ring of Empress Alexandra.  I have tried in vain to find one and can not.  Thanks.

Hi,

I've also wondered what Alexandra's engagement set looked like--didn't she also receive a necklace and some other items?  I believe it was Faberge's single largest transaction with the Tsar.  I'd love to see pictures too.

Best,

Sarah

My only source is Robert Massie's book.  It says she received a pink pearl ring, a pink pearl necklace, a bracelet with "massive emerald" and a saphire and diamond brooch fron Nicholas.  Also the Tsar (Alexander III) gave her sautoir of pearls.  It was work 250,000 roubles and was the largest transaction Fabrege had with the Imperial Family.  (that alone says alot about what it must look like) It all seems pretty impressive.  Massie cites his information from two other books, "The life and tragedy of Alexandra Feodorovna, Empress of Russia" by Buhoeveden and "Peter Carl Faberge: an illustrated record and Review of His Life and Work" by Bainbridge.  There could be pictures in those, I haven't had time to track them down though.  Maybe if anyone has them or has read either you could let me know if anything is in there.

I've never seen it but perhaps an illustrated magazine of the day (like The Graphic or Illustrated London News) would've had it? In many of the 'big' royal weddings (ie children and grandchildren of QV) they gave a lot of coverage of royal wedding presents. Perhaps if someone has it they could look. I'm still in the hunt for those issues myself.

Hmm it probably would be in a magazine. Is there an online archive or something?

I've got the Bainbridge book at home, I'll see if I can find anything in it tonight.

Hi All,
Take a look under the discussion for Alexandra on the main topic page. I posted a radiograph of Alexandra's hand that we all (who have looked at it) think has her engagement ring on it!
