HM Queen Margrethe II is due to return home today after the State Visit to Greece instead of enjoying a 6 day private visit there afterwards, since she will be atmitted to hospital immediatly upon return for a total knee replacement.Prince Henrik will return aboard the royal yacht Dannebrog.

Earlyer, during a press conference on board the Dannebrog HM expressed her pleasure that her sister and brother-in-law were allowed to visit Greece again as citizens.HM stated her sister and b-i-l are so overjoyed and it has made them look 10 years younger.

HM Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik are off to Greece to join the 60th birthday celebrations for the Queens youngest sister Queen Anne-Marie.
Princess Benedikte and other members of her family will attend as well.

HRH Prince Joachim will be the Rigsforstander during the absence of all the other members of the RF,meaning he will "mind the shop",as the danish constitution requires that one member of the RF is always in the country. As Rigsforstander the Prince can sign acts and decress if need be,but it has him close to his son Nikolai as well, who celebrates his 7th birthday today.

I always found Queen Margarethe to be the most interesting, intriguing, intelligent and regal of the European royals... she's so youthful and exuberant in comparsion to QE and the Windsors, and she has managed to mantain a lively, interesting life outside of her duties as queen. She's into archaelogoy, like I am, so that makes her even more likable for me!  :)
