HM Queen Margrethe II has cancelled a State Visit to Chile from march 10th to 15th due to arthritis.
Her doctors advised against it in this stage of treatment, plus the long flight and extensive program
would be way too much of a strain.

Instead Queen Margrethe askerd Crown Prince Frderik and Crown Princess Mary to pay an official visit
to Chile at that time in which most elements of the original schedule will be maintained.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but not sure if it should have its own thread either.  Are there any opinions on the new family portrait?

It's certainly ...... interesting.  The likenesses aren't bad, but it certainly has a creepy vibe to it, which I am certain is intentional.

It's so creepy, scary and looks like a poster to a horror film. Thomas Kluge (The artist) is very good to make his portraits look like photos, and his paintings are always very dark, but I must confess I was so disappointed when I saw this. I was thrilled when I heard a new Family portrait of the Royal Family was to be painted, and that is was going to be a modern pendant to the Glücksburg Family Portrait. Thomas Kluge (TK) was at a gathering at Christiansborg where the old painting is, and someone said to him it really was a horrible painting, and that he (TK) certainly could do it better. That's where he got the idea, but I don't think it's a compliment to the Family, as it was meant to be. Everyone seems very selfabsorbed and estranged from each other, except for Nikolai and Felix. Christian was placed in front to show he is the future of the monarchy. A dark, gloom and sad future it seems. He looks lonely, sad and isolated from the Family and if you look at the area round his eyes, he looks at least 40 years old. Frederik look older than he is too, and Prince Henrik (the elder) and princess Isabella doesn't look like them very well. But the likeness of the queen, Mary, Marie, the other kids and Joachim are very good, though Joachim's gesture towards baby Athena seems very mechanical.

I was quite surprised when I saw it and it is certainly different, but personally I don't like it as it really does resemble a poster for a horror movie or a halloween party. I wonder what the artist's intention was in depicting the royal family in such a creepy manner?

Members of the Danish royal family took part in jubilee of a close friend.
Thursday evening Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended the celebrations for the 70th birthday of the royal family's close friend, Count Ditlev Knuth-Winterfeldt.

The Count is Marshall of the Court and the party took place at his manor Rosendal on Zealand. Another invité, President George W. Bush, had to decline due to a busy schedule.

During her speech on new years eve HM announced that her husband Prince Henrik wishes to retire this year,
i.e. with immediate effect.best thing he can do other than frustrating and embarrassing his spouse, his family
and the nation with his constant whining he "wants to be King Consort".He will not,so retirement is a blessing for this person.

Prince Henrik died shortly before midnight on Tuesday the 13th of February, 83 years old, at Fredensborg Palace. The funeral will take place in the palace chapel of Christiansborg Palace on Tuesday the 20th of February, where his closed coffin will be on lit de parade during the weekend and on Monday. In accordance with his wishes he will not be buried in Roskilde Cathedral's royal necropolis, where his wife eventually will be buried, but half of his ashes will be scattered in Danish waters and the other half buried in an urn in the gardens of Fredensborg Palace.

The word the Danes use in their epitaphs of him is sjov*, as in en sjov mand, a fun / funny man.
* Pronounced [ɕɒwˀ], with a Russian-style shcha (щ - voiceless alveolo-palatal fricative), then a typically Danish and English semi-diphtongized vowel and a glottal stop (Danish stød, also typical of Cockney, Estuary and Australian English) at the end.
