. She may well have already known that she was pregnant! They were married on 15th May 1567 and she miscarried of twins in July at Loch Leven.

Didn't she miscarry in July 1568?

Don't think so - she would have been in England by then.

She never saw Bothwell again after June 1567.

(Hope I got this right) :-/

Bothwell died in Denmark in 1578, I think . . . apprently he was quite mad by his death. Poor Mary - another trial for her to endure during her time in England . . .  :(

Actually she got over him pretty quickly. I don't think she was too bothered by his death.

They didn't have that much in common really, but  the feelings must have been intense enough at the time for her to throw all caution to the winds.

In lust, rather than in love?

No in love I think, but it didn't last.

There may have been a little bit of lust in there as well, but Mary's not around to tell us!

Poor Bothwell, his mummified body can still be seen in the little church near to Dragsholm castle, where he died.

i think bothwell was a contrast to her first two husbands. remember the feeble francis? and the delicate darnley... she must've wanted a 'real' man :)

i also think she married him willingly because she was pregnant

En route to Denmark, Bothwell travelled to the north of Scotland where he sought refuge with his uncle - the Roman Catholic Bishop of Moray (a gentleman with (?) 7 children).

Yes, he escaped by boat after the battle of Carberry hill on 15th June 1567 and sailed north, barely escaping  capture by the confederated lords in Lerwick harbour (Shetlands). In order to survive, he indulged in a spot of piracy in the North Sea, which was the reason for his capture and imprisonment by the danish king. I expect he stayed with his uncle on the way.

Didn't Bothwell also have something else with the King of Denmark. He had a Danish girlfriend with whom he became engaged only to left her without money and he then abandoned her or something of that style, didn't he? I might be wrong, correct me please if I am!

Yes, Umigon, I remember reading about that somewhere. poor Bothwell died ,filthy, raving mad and chained to a pillar in Dragsholm Castle. Well, who wouldn't be raving after surviving like that for 10 years.
