How old does it have to be qualify as "old"? How about "A Man for All Seasons" from the 60's? And another one from the 60's, that horrible, awful "Rasputin, the Mad Monk" with Christopher Lee...

Tudor Rose (1936), which unfortunately, I've never seen. Has anyone here? And is it more accurate than Lady Jane?

The Sea Hawk (1940, or around there)

Marie Antoinette with Norma Sgearer 1938
Royal Wedding with Fred Astaire 1951.
The Lion in Winter with Katherine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole 1968
And, of course, Nicholas & Alexandra 1971- one of the last old "Hollywood" style epics.
Then we can get into the Romans, Egyptians, Chinese.

Hi,

If we're going to include Roman, Egyptian and Chinese royalties, then:

"The Robe" (1953)
"Demetrius and the Gladiators" (1954)
"Ben-Hur" (1959)
"King of Kings" (1961)
"The Fall of the Roman Empire" (1964)

"The Egyptian" (1954)
"Cleopatra" (1934 & 1963)

"Genghis Khan" (1960)
"55 Days at Peking" (1963)
"The Last Emperor" (1974)

There have been several films  about Catherine the Great, my favourite being A Royal Scandal with Tallulah Bankhead 1945
Viconti's Ludwig  1972 [not actually Hollywood, but in the epic  Holywood style and scale]

Hi Robert,

Yes, Tallulah made a perfect Catherine the Great....

I always wondered what it would be like if they'd met:
"Hello, Tallu, how goes it?"
"Bloody awful, Your Majesty - dahling - where do you keep the vodka!!"......

A movie from the 70s called "1000 Days."   It was about Anne Boylen.   From when she first meets Henry VIII to her execution.   It's titled "1000 days" because it's apparently the amount of days she spent with Henry.

I really loved that movie alas  I don't know who stars in it and I'm to lazy to look up on IMDB.

You don't mean "Anne of a Thousand Days" do you? 1,000 days is how long Anne was a queen of England...

Hi Rosieposie,

"Anne of a Thousand Days" (1969) starred Genevieve Bujold, the Canadian actress as Anne and Richard Burton as Henry VIII.
Both were nominated for Oscars but neither won.
Irene Pappas, the Greek actress, starred as Katherine of Aragon.

Yes, very bad casting for that one, I thought...
