The lyons Drawing Room was part of Cameron's Fifth Apartment at the Catherine Palace used by the Empress Catherine during the last years of her life. I understand it has been partially restored and is in the process of being restored along with the Chinese Hall next to it.

Hello Londo954,

Last summer in the Catherine palace the curator let me see the work that was being carried in Rastrelli´s antechambers. The rooms beyond, including Arabesque, Lyon, Chinese hall and all those used by Catherine were untouched since the war. The curator told me they had only bare walls and nothing remaining.
However, there are a lot of things and furniture belonging to these rooms preserved and exhibited in the museum.

Alexandra used some furniture from the CHinese Hall at the ALexander Palace I believe

The Chinese hall´s suite of furniture was especially done for that room and was indeed very charasteristical. I´ve never seen any of those chairs in the old photographs of the Alexander palace.

However, Alexandra used a famous suite of furniture from the Arabesque hall in the Portrait hall of the Alexander palace, you can see one of Jacob´s chairs in Bob´s page on that room.

Sorry for my original typo of Lyon"s" in the amber room link... surely we are all allowed the occasional mistake !

Thanks to Joanna for the link to the catherine palace site. The position on the plan is correct, but the picture is of another cameron room ... I think it is the blue formal dining room in his other set of apartments that have been restored.

The Lyon drawing room had yellow lyon silk walls with mother of pearl inlaid floor and doors. Hope this is some help .

"Lyons" is an English surname. However, the French city Lyon is often spelled "Lyons" in English - or at least in England - so I guess that's why the authors of the amber room book have preferred that form...Very confusing though!

Lyon(s): the city in France : "Lee-ohn"
English surname : "Lion"(s)

Lyon is the middle english spelling of the modern word Lion, from the French word of same meaning.
