About that of Sissi with just an S, how correct is that some persons say that really she was not
Sisi, that she was Lisi? I think that they read as this way her famous signature. Thanks for the info.
I read that Sophie was known as Sopherl on the thread of Sophie of Alencon here on the forum.

In my opinion the Lisi theory is absurd. Some people had a closer look at Elisabeth's signature and thought the "S" might be a "L". But why did family members refer to her as "Sisi" in their letters? If she was really called "Lisi", everyone else would have called her "Lisi", too.

About "Sopherl": There has been a bad movie about Sophie on German television. In this movie she was called "Sopherl". Maybe the author saw this film and thought the shown facts to be real - but they aren't. Nevertheless, "Sopherl" is some sort of German/Austrian version of Sophie. In the Sissi movies, some characters also call Archduchess Sophie "Sopherl", for example Duke Max.

There is also the theory that the nickname "Sisi" was from her father. He visited egypt and was very interested in this country and its history. When you read "Sisi" from the end to the beginning you got "Isis", the important egypt godess. But well thats only another theorie...

Sophie was really called "Sopherl" but only in when she was a child, she didn't like these nickname, so everyone called her Sophie or the most closest friends and familymebers called her by her second name Charlotte. It was a privileg to call her so and her husband Ferdinand got it after their first "romantic hours" at saxony.

I still don't believe that Sophie was called "Sopherl". Could you please give me your source?

I also read in Paoli's book that Sophie allowed Ferdinand to call her "Charlotte", but in fact no one ever did. Maybe Sophie wanted Ferdinand to fell honoured. Family members always called her "Sophie" (see letters written by Ludovica, Archduchess Sophie, Elisabeth, Ludwig II., Marie Valérie's diary, etc.).

Thanks for the explanation of Sisi's nickname, really it doesn't look like an L.
Sorry, but I don't know German.... What are the nicknames of the name Elisabeth? is
Sissi included on them, or was just used for the Empress?

Oh, there are a couple of possible nicknames. Younger people are usually called Lisa, other nicknames are Elli, Elisa or Lisbeth. I also know an older woman who is called Sissi by her husband, but that's not common. In Germany everyone thinks of the Sissi movies first when he/she hears this name. So it's quite embarrassing to be called Sissi ... ;-)

Actually Sisi was actually named Lisi or Lizzy (short form for Elisabeth like Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejuce). The Kaiser also called his daughter Sisi in honor of the beautiful Empress.

Well...It is a toss up between Nene (who had a priest for a lover) or Sophie who tried to run away with a doctor...

I don´t think that Nene had an affair with a priest. But who knows.

Nene had a close realationship with a priest during her later years partly due to her religious revial in her life. He also eats with her at her dining table. The story was recorded in books about the House of Thurn & Taxis and family of Sisi.
