Yes, I've read the book and have seen the movie, though the book sticks in my memory. I can only remember certain parts of the movie though... perhaps because I've only seen it once and because the book has so much more storyline, like what usually happens when you take a book and turn it into a movie. I'm just waiting for it to come out on DVD like other Danielle Steel books-made-into-TV-series. I actually started a thread about it in the "Books" section...

While I don't think she was modeled after a specific relative, I do believe that her family name was modeled after the Yussopovs.

Yes, I have read this book, but I have never seen the movie. I actually enjoyed it; I found it overall very entertaining. I recommend it if anyone has the time to read it.

As far as I know, there are NO Danielle Steel books/movies that claim that Marie survived and I've read/seen most of them. Perhaps you are confusing this idea with Zoya? Zoya and Granny Dan are the only Danielle Steel books I've read that deal with Imperial Russia.

The book never claims that Marie survived. EVER. It makes it very clear that the family died in 1918.

The Internet Movie database on Zoya:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112796/
In the movie (and in the book), Zoya is a friend of Maria.

Yes, Marie is a friend of Zoya's--although I still can't understand how/why a countess would be friends with a Grand Duchess. I thought the movie was alright overall. Although the Palace interiors were rather incorrect, I was thrilled to see shots of the Alexander Palace and the Feodorovsky Cathedral. That greatly improved the movie's standing for me.

Watching this "Zoya" right now. I agree with Ortino's post above, but as for the rest of the film; it is pap. Melissa Gilbert is the eponymous heroine who has had a large overdose of orange hair dye. But I will stick with it....beats the football ;D
