The tragedy of Khodynka was during the coronation day...1389 victims, if I'm not wrong.
Premonitory sign, or simple coincidence?

Personally I don't believe in premonitory signs, but however that was a disquieting coincidence.  :(

Khodynka wasn´t in the exact day.... But it is said that some order (?) fell of Nicolas´s shoulders and they quickly put it on again not to raise panic. I don´t know if it´s true, but I don´t believe in premonitions anyway.

Yes, you are right, sorry for my error.
The tragedy of Khodynka was during the celebrations for the coronation, but not in the exact day.

The couple were in doubts to attend the party because of that incident. Since they don't want the visitors to make the visitors disappointed, they attended the party.
That caused a bad reputation on the imperial couple then.

Amazing colored fotos  by the most wonderful Yelena Aleksandrovna. Endless thank you very much!

For them as Emperor and Empress? I would say yes.

For them as husband and wife? I would say no.

As Emperor and Empress, I think it was hard for them to rule such a large country. But they had each other. When it was just family, I think they lived nicely. And after that tragedy, I think they were just forced to come out of the past and into the future. They had their daughters. They had their son.

Truely, I think they might have been better as a normal family.

Agree with you!, I have no doubt that as husband and wife and as parents they were formidable, no one can doubt that they were a very united family, as rulers ...we know the story.   :(

At that time Grand Duke Sergey Alexandrovich, Ell`s husband, was the Governor of Moscow so Alix and Niki felt somewhat obliged to attend the ball given by Sergey and Ella. Although some people tried to dissuade the Imperial couple fom going to this ball, mAlix, in all probability, wnted to support her sister and her husband. She was misunderstood so it was rumoured that the tzar with his German wife were dancing merily and rejoicing over the grief of the Russian people. Bad start, indeed

That's the bad thing on royal life. Whatever your moves are, no matter how trivial or innocent in nature it may be, must be criticized and put into a more inaccurate story called a wrong gossip.

Yes this is true!, I read this in the book of Henri Troyat "Nicholas II and the tragic end of the Romanovs".
Unfortunately Nicholas and Alexandra were tragically misunderstood...I don't believe that the Imperial couple were dancing thoughtlessly without thinking of the terrible tragedy happened a few hours before.
And if I'm not wrong, Alexandra propose to leave the ball early.
