This is Alexei in Hesse (Wolfsgarten) in 1910 with Don & Ludwig Hesse. It is from 'The Camera & the Tsars' by Charlotte Zeepvat & there are several other similar pictures there.

Is the Russian chapel still there & still functioning?

I once saw a groups picture (one or two, almost similar) of a visit (I thought to Hesse) with the Tsarina, the Childeren, the Hesse Family (Ducky was still there).

They are sitting on a bench in sort of park!

Who knows this picture?

In 1895 the IF with Ella and Sergius visited the russian chapel ( called Griechische Kapelle ) at Wiesbaden. Had somebody seen pictures of this visit?

Helen, that's right. It was 1896. I have seen the plaque and wrote the wrong figure, sorry. But are you sure. that no pictures exist from the visit?

 they do not include pictures of the visit the family paid to the Wiesbaden church. Even the brochure I bought at the church at Wiesbaden many years ago only makes mention of this visit without including a picture.  :-/ It does, however, include beautiful photos of the dome and iconstas.

The whole Imperial Family paid a series of royal visits in 1910, and as Alix had to go to Nauheim for a cure, it was arranged that they should stay at Friedberg, where in fact her sisters Princesses Irene and Victoria were also staying at this time. There exist quite a few photographs of the family at Friedberg (for example, the Tsarevitch sat with his Greek cousins) as there does of an excursion to Münzenberg, with the Grand Ducal Family and Imperial Family all seated around a long refreshment table.

the last three weeks were spent at Wolfsgarten, where the famous photograph was taken on the staircase of them, with Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, his wife Eleonore, their two sons, with members of the Hessian court, on November 1st 1910.

Nicholas and Alexandra were also in Hesse for the laying of the foundation stone of the Russian Chapel at Darmstadt on 16th October 1897 and for the consecration on 8th October 1899.

The Tsarevitch had also many pictures (like the lovely one bluetoria has very kindly posted :-))taken with his Hessian cousins, the sons of the Grand Duke, Princes Georg Donatus, and Ludwig, who became his close playfellows during the visit.

You have one of the best collection of pictures in this board, and you post the pictures allways just in time.
I like the picture at the stairs of Wolfsgarten in 1910 because all people are named also the court like Dr. Botkin, Freiherr Riedesel von Eisenbach, Freiin von Grancy and so on.
Riedesel von eisenbach and Grancy were familys which were about generations at the hessian court.

There was the visit in October 1899 in which Nicholas and Alix stayed at Wolfsgarten (several photographs were taken on this visit, noteably that of Nicholas in the gardens with Prince Nicholas of Greece and Grand Duke Boris).

I love OTMA, specially Tatiana and olga - the most beautiful grand duchesses - and I find Ernst Ludwig of Hesse very attractive. Can you post some pictures of the girls with her uncle here, please ?
