HRH Crown Princess Victoria, godchild of HM Queen Beatrix, will open the annual flower show the Keukenhof,The Netherlands,on march 21st.

This years theme is:"Linnaeus,King of Flowers"

It is to celebrate that 300 years ago Doctor Carolus Linnaeus,Sweden, was born.To this day the baptising and naming of tulips follows the classifications he developed in the 18th century.

The colours yellow and blue will set the tone in this beautifull park/garden.

I love Victoria!  :D

She is just too sweet, and I feel so bad for her when the press makes snide comments comparing her to her sister. I think she always looks regal (rather than over-tanned, like her sister  :P) Victoria and Queen Margarethe of Denmark are probably my two most favorite modern royals... it's a shame we don't hear more about them in the U.S. But at least there's this thread; thanks for all the great links, guys.

Happy to see you like her!  :) I live in Sweden, and if nothing unexpected happens, she will be queen of "my" country one day. She is getting more and more popular in Sweden, as she has matured in her role as crown princess. She is very committed to her duties and is doing a very good job. :)

Since someone brought up Victoria's birthday celebrations, I have a question: Why is it that the royals tend to have birthday celebrations MONTHS in advance or after?

I mean, I know Queen Elizabeth II of England's birthday is April 21, and her birthday celebrations are held in June; if I'm correct, it sounds like Crown Princess Victoria's birthday celebrations will be held next January, and I know her birthday is July 14.

Why is that?

Victoria celebrates hers on july 14th.Reason why Royals often celebrate their birthdays later is that in case of a planned extensive event the agenda's should preferably meet as best as possible so all invited can meet the date and attend.Or in case of a royal birth, like we had here in april close to Alexander's birthday, with Máxima in maternity leave and hands full with the other two toddlers, the celebrations are postponed till september as he marks his fortieth with a grand gala event for tout Royal Europe and the date suited best for those who will be in attendance then.

Or by tradition,Queen Beatrix celebrates her birthday on january 31st,but it is generally, and famously, celebrated on april 30th,her late mothers birthday to honour her memory.

The 30st birthday of HRH on july 14th will be celebrated extensively in Sweden,as besides the usual salute at Solliden in the afternoon, celebrations will start in the morning.

At 10.30AM there will be a reception for the government and members of parliament (Riksdag),followed by a military salute at the Inner Court of the Royal Palace,Stockholm,to which the public is invited to attend.Congratulations registers will be opened to convey birthday wishes to HRH.

In the afternoon the RF is at Solliden,Öland, where Victoria will receive the traditional flower salute by the public.

At 07.00PM the RF is expected at the (rather intimate-) Bornholm stadium for the concluding festivities of Victoria Day.

Wedding in 2008?

The Swedish Foreign Office budget has special funding for a possible 2008 Royal wedding. As all three of TM children have a longstanding relationship, attention points at the Crown Princess Victoria and her beau Daniel Westling. We'll see,but would be nice. :)

All of Sweden is waiting for the announcement of her engagement to Mr.Daniel Westling, maybe her birthday will see that happening between "snail #1 and snail # 2' as they are lovingly...referred to in the swedish press,ie,they do take their time don't they...
