For me, the choice must be obvious because of most of my postings: Grand Duchess Ksenia (Xenia). My reasons are simply the fact that I can relate the most to her. Ksenia Aleksandrovna and I have so many things in common, and that draws me to her in a way--it's always nice to find someone like you, even if they are long-since passed away and I will never get to meet her. Yet I feel perhaps if we had known each other, we could have been very good friends. (And I love how she was so passionate with her husband in the early days, yet very refined, reserved, and proper. I can relate to that, also.)  ;)

What got me interested in researching her at first, I don't really know for sure. I was just drawn to her, and then when I found out how much we had in common, I became more drawn to her, as now. She was a very unique person, because her personality had a kind of duality to it that is rare in a person who is not split  ;). I have that same kind of duality. I am both passionate and impatient (as was she), as well as calm and serene (as was she). There are SO MANY things I could write, but I don't think anyone wants to read a book, so I'll just leave it at that... ;D

My favorite Romanov is without doubt, Olga (Nicholas II's daughter). She and I have alot in common. We both love to read, we're both the eldest (I have cousins though), and we both have tempers. Another favorite is Maria; she is just so beautiful, her beauty is stunning. One thing we have in common is a love of drawing-except I'm right-handed. The last Romanov is Alexei. He is such a gentle love, a brave, caring and spirited beautiful child.

Alexander II without a doubt. He was a man of foresight and action. Those who came afterwards simply hastened the demise of the dynasty, lacking his vision and determination. The "children" were just that... children. I can't identify with children since they tragically had no time to develop their potential and make some noteworthy achievement. And I certainly would not choose someone simply based upon his or her appearance but then, we're all different. I believe if Alexander II had lived and been given that chance to free the serfs, he might possibly have allowed a functioning Duma and been willing to reliquish some of his autocratic powers. This would undoubtedly have delayed (and possibly prevented) the revolution and the resultant aftermath of the slaughter of untold millions of Russians during the Communist bloodbath. Much of the responsibility for that bloodbath must be placed at the feet of the ineffectual Nicholas and his meddling wife. I feel sorry that the children were simply herded into that basement room and slaughtered, whereas Nicholas and Alexandra no doubt should have been brought to trial.

By far... Alexander II was the best Romanov. (IMHO)

Anastasia, because I can relate to her and we are so much alike. Also she is a very interesting person.
Olga, because she is just like one of us. She went through so much but her devotion to Christ never seemed to waver. She is someone to aspire to be like.

Mashka, because she was so sweet and beautiful.
I also had something for Mashka, and now she is my favorite, my next favorite is Olga.

My favorite is Olga Nicolaievna. I think she was a very beautiful young lady and has a personality similar to mine. When I was a kid I liked Anastasia most of all since we were both  tomboys and loved playing tricks on our siblings. ;) Now I am more like Olga although occasionally I still act a bit like Anastasia.

My second favorite is Alexei Nicholaievich.  He was so brave for one so young.

Oy,  RussiaSunbeam1918 ;

Maj. Jesse Carnes here.  I wanted to  send you a reply
to something you said, but I wanted to write to you
personally, rather than to the entire list.   When I simply attempted to reply, I was cyber-told that I had to set up a mailing accout.  WHY?   I have 4 email addresses and would rather not set up another.
My email is   narniacairparavel@yahoo.co.uk
How does one reply to people privately other than procuring each other's email address?

warmly and cheers now mon ami  ;

Since 1982 or 83 I'm interested in the Romanov Dynasty,
especially I like Aleksei N, I don't know why but maybe
because of his tragic destiny and his lovely face? For me
he was mysterious for long time.

I've always liked both Alexei and Olga most. Olga because I'm a lot like her in personality (thought when I was younger I was most like Anastasia) and that I LOVE to read books and write. I've always admired Alexei because it seems he tried so hard to be a normal child despite his illness. Whenever I look at a picture of  Alyosha  there's just something about his sweet innocent face that makes me think of an angel. I know he wasn't perfect and that he did have his naughty moments but what child doesn't?

As for the lesser Romanovs I've always liked Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich. Why? Maybe because he was an accomplished horseman or perhaps because he was just  very handsome. ;)

They are so adorable together. I wish my little brother loved me that much!

My favourite Romanov would have to be Maria because she is so pretty!
