I’ve read all your posts showing your own points of view, all of them are worthy. But I want to add some comments, of course my own opinion.
Mary Vetsera: She wasn’t innocent, she knew perfectly all that she was doing, if she wanted to die with Rudolph, it was her problem. She was so silly and gullible, I dislike her too. I knew that she had an affair before Rudolph and she was notorious.
Crown Prince Rudolph: He was an unhappy and weak man (Weak of: health, character & mind) who was looking for consolation, of course I’m not defending him. He had several and serious mind disorders. I knew that he didn’t feel able to be an Emperor. About his relationship with Vetsera, he didn’t love her very much, perhaps (my own opinion) he just desired her. I dislike his attitude & behavior.
Elisabeth Marie “Erszi”: A capricious & ungrateful spoilt girl. She criticized very hard her poor mother, she never forgave her. In fact Erszi criticized very much her mother’s second marriage, but she had a scandalous life (It could be considered as this way in this years), and her caprice caused her problems (I’m referring to her first marriage).

Another Habsburg that I dislike: Archduke Victor (nicknamed “Bubby” for his mother, Archduchess Sophie) he was Franz Joseph’s youngest brother. He visited public baths to molest boys; in fact he was nicknamed “The Archduke of the bath”.  With women he had a strange behavior: at first he was gentlemanly with them, but when he had an opportunity he offended them, I knew that he behaved as this way even with Sissi, that was a close member of his family.

I dislike Marie Louise Larisch Von Wallarsee. She was just an opportunist, the members of Habsburg family payed her for keep in silence all the story about Mayerling and they also offered her to go to live to the USA, she accepted the money & went to live to US, but there she wrote sensationalist books about the Habsburgs and she added a lot of false information to sell more & more books. She betrayed the confidence of her family.

Dear Kaiserin Alzbeta Sissi, I really don't want to be like a know-all, but his name was LUDWIG Victor. The right spelling of his nickname wasn't "Bubby", but "Bubi" which is something like a little cute boy in Germany. I guess you aren't a German native speaker, so never mind. When he was still a child, Franz Joseph called him "der kleine Ludwig" (= "little Ludwig") in his letters.

What you wrote about Ludwig is only half the truth. He didn't visit public baths regularly, but one time he assaulted a young man in an indecent way. As this incident couldn't be hushed up, Franz Joseph exiled his brother to Klesheim near Salzburg.
Actually old women liked Ludwig very much, because he was really good in buttering them up. But you are right, he loved scandals, was some kind of gossip-monger and Elisabeth hated him for sowing the seeds of discord within the imperial family. He isn't one of my favourites either ...

Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -

Personally, I like Ludwig Victor. He is an interesting character and sadly, he never got much attention and room in the Habsburg history, which is why most people only know a few facts, namely that he was gay and they usually relate him to the incident you mentioned, MarieCharlotte. But there is so much more about him and he was a quite interesting character. It's the same problem Rudolf. Even though he was and is more popular than Ludwig Victor, people know the common, superficial facts and rumors, so he was just 'the one who killed himself and his mistress' and that's all. Less people know the variety of his interests, how intelligent and sensitive he was, etc. And even his mother, Empress Elisabeth will probably never get rid of her 'Sissi' image, as well.

I agree, Elisabeth will always be seen as the young naive girl portrayed in the Trylogy with Romy. It is far from the truth but people don't know or care about that these days. As for Rudolf, movies gave quite wrong image of him - he is shown as an heroic man dying for the sake of true love, but we all know that is not the truth. And about Mary Vetsera, did she really have an affair before she was with Rudolf? I've read a bio on her and it doesn't mention one(but it is only little because the book itself is about Mayerling) - but she wasn't that innocent as she is often portrayed. That is for sure.
