My interest in the first Nicholas (Pavlovich) and Alexandra grows.  I find myself becoming far more interested in the facets of their personalities.

I agree that they were a very interesting couple, and I have a growing interest in them as well. From all I have read, they had a love affair as passionate and intense as the second Nicholas & Alexandra. They lived for each other and for their children, but aside from that were very different personality-wise than their later namesakes. Nicholas I was very strong and tough, some would even say brutal and cruel at times, and his wife was everyone's favourite, a woman beloved by all who could "do no wrong," as I have read.

my favorite is michael alexandrovich, floppy.

i think that he began life as quite a spoiled boy but as he grew older, he did what folks do naturally through life, he developed a character. he tried to warn nicky, who of course, wouldn't have a bar of it.

by the time of the revolution, i think that he was a man of proven courage; he led his troops bravely during WWI.  he had learned some of life's lessons and i think that he woudl have made a great tsar, had he the chance.  the PG did not support him; they couldn't support themselves.

i was always charmed that he married for love and that he had to struggle for his life with natalya.  they seemed to be good for each other.

i always felt that his loss was worst of all.

What a nice assessment of Michael! Another thing I like about him, which I think shows a lot of maturity and strength of character on his part, is that, realizing that the days of autocratic rule were over, he offered to be the leader only of an assembly elected by the people. You can read in his biography on the main AP site that he proclaimed "I have firmly decided that I will accept power only if that is the will of our great people, who must by universal suffrage elect their representatives to the Constituent Assembly representative government." It is said he would have made a very good constitutional monarch. I think he was thus more progressive and open minded than his brother, and he matured a great deal from his days as a fun-loving flirt.

Grand Duchess Tatiana all the way. She was a little bit of a "mama's" girl ( If there is such a thing)  And, even though there are things known about her I think she kept some of herself hidden. :)

I'm sorry but the compulsion is just too much for me.

I "Heart" Misha

He just seems like a really decent sort for all of the reasons mentioned in previous posts.

Ah...the first post....

Books on Anastasia and the various claimants first kindled my interest in the Imperial Family, but, over time, I have grown fondest of dear Alexei.  :)

Maria. She is so mysterious. Her life, the countries first dissapointment (not a tsarvitch), and always being 2nd to her sisters in every catogory.
But OTMA all do have different characteristics that I like in them.

Sandro and KR.

After reading A Lifelong Passion I became fascinated with these Grand Dukes.

I would love to have known both of these men.  They seemed so genuine.

That's a very cute picture of Anastasia and Alexei!
I really can't choose, but if I must, it would be Olga Nicholaievna, for many reasons. Maria Nicholaievna second!  ;)

I bet you can guess mine. ;D  Anastasia, of course.  She's my favorite because she had such a spunky personality and outgoingness that just made her so unique.  Maria is my second, then Olga, because she's a lot like me. 8)

I love Alexei SOOO much, but most of you know I'm crazy about him, lol.  ;D I am not sure why he's my favorite, I was just always drawn to him more than others, I think. I think it's also in some ways he reminds me a little of me, and in other ways, I wish I was more like him.

If I have to choose I'll say my favorite Romanov are: Marie, Anastasia, Alexei, too. Also, little Olga Alexandrovna.
