i've heard the russian pronounciation of my name is [and how i pronounce it] is like

ah-nahstuh-sEEya

said very quickly with an emphasis on the EE (the I) because the name is originally greek and the greek pronounciation is more like:

uh-NAHstah-seeya.

so the russian is just a slight and almost indiscernible variant on the greek.  ah-nah-stah-ciya said sort of slower i think is more english and so is anna-stay-zha. ive also heard another variant as ah-nuh-stah-ziya. which if you say that very quickly sounds closer to the russian and you can see how it is derivitive.

anyway, that's what i know about the name anastasia.

Nyet, as it has been said above, in Russian it is Ah-nah-stah-SEE-yah.

To pronounce it as Anastasee makes it genetive in Russian (that is: Anastasia's or pertaining to Anastasia)

(Even though it is not historically reliable  ::)) In the movie N & A, the Tsar referred to his youngest daughter as:

            AN-A-STA-SYA

No emphasis made on any particular letter.
It came as a surprise to me, I had always pronounced it:

               AN-A-STAI-SHA

Sofi :)

Hello!

Just wished to ad that the french pronunciation sounds a lot like the russian one.

A-nas-ta-zeea. We don't emphazise on any of the sounds more than on the others. It's such a pretty name! Much more pretty than the French "Anastasie" (A-nas-ta-zee) version.

Excuse me. Maybe it was a little off-topic, but I couldn't resist... ;D
