I don't think that can be right. Frederick is the 4th great grandson of Kaiser Wilhelm I and Augusta of Saxe-Weimar. Wilhelm's sister Charlotte of Prussia was married to Tsar Nicholas I. However Frederik is also the 5th great grandson of Augusta's mother Maria Paulovna, who was sister of Tsar Alexander I and his younger brother Nicholas I, children of Tsar Paul I and Maria Fyodorovna, so he is a descendant of Catherine the Great.

I think you forget (been there, done that) his rather inconspicuous great grandmother Alexandrine of Mecklenburg, whose mother Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna was a granddaughter of Nicholas I.

Thank you, Превед, I had indeed forgotten that, if I once knew it. I don't think I had ever made the connection. His great grandmother Alexandrine may have been inconspicuous, but his gggm Anastasia Mikhailovna certainly wasn't!
