If Mary has a girl and then a boy, who will be first in line, the girl or the boy? There have been several alteratiosn in European constitutions regarding female succession that I feel quite lost. I know Margarethe inherited because she had no brothers, but perhaps things have changed since then and now the first-born inherits no matter its sex. ???

Cimbrio,

This has been argued and debated on many different threads for the last nine months.  If Mary has a girl (I hope they name her Margaret after her Grammy) there is a 99.99999% chance they will change the constitution.

I have read that the Danish parliament is already quietly beginning the process to allow the succession to go to a first-born daughter even if she is followed by a son.
Terrific.  I think it's only fair.

I hope it is a daughter and she gets a name that honours both her grandmothers.  CP Mary's mother's name was Henrietta.  Is there a Danish equivalent?

That is early, the baby is expected next month, but do bear in mind that when Princess Maxima of the Netherlands was pregnant with Amalia, they said that she was expected in January, but she was eventually born in the beginning of December. (They just told the press another date than the expexted date :-/)
So maybe that's what they're also saying in Denmark.
I hope it's going to be a boy, because there already so much future European Queens :P, but as long as it's going to be healthy, it's ok.
But it would be nice, a 'miniture Frederik' ;D (or a child that looks like its maternal grandfather, haha :) I'm a big fan of CP Mary's father, especially in that kilt ;))

Yes,there was some gegoochel with the date concerning Máxima, might be the case now as well maybe. The baby was/is due in 3 weeks,so there would still be none overboard if it decided to come by its own timetable. And as to a girl.Great,I thought "girlpower"was the thing......and think of all those parures that will be worn....thinking of that,by that time I will be......oh,jeesh,Mary......Hurry!

I've got a question:
Why does the constitution have to be changed if it's a girl? They already have a Queen now, so if Frederik & Mary will have a girl first, why doesn't she automatically 'inherit the throne'?  ???

She dosn't because if she has a brother he will be heir to the throne. As the constitution is now, a brother goes before a sister, even if he is younger.

Does anyone else think CPM's dress sense in impeccable? That purple thingy she is wearing in the second pic emeraldeyes posted looks equisite, but still tasteful.  ::)

I agree Prince Lieven.  She has a strong sense of what looks good on her and what is appropriate for certain types of occasions.  She manages to look casually elegant during the day and usually looks stunning in evening clothes, especially with that ruby parure.

Yes, and she does her hair well - not too tight, or it would make her face look even more pointed than it is. Makeup and hats great too - HRH knows how to accessorise.  8)

She has GREAT fashoin sense. Emeraldeyes, mind if I join you swooning about that ruby parure?? #2 on my "get it before I die" list, after QEII's kokoshink tiara.

How does she manage to be pregnant and look pretty at the same time?? I certainly don't know...

Grand Duchess Kimberley, you are welcome to join me in the drooling anytime you want, it's always nice to have another jewel-lover around!
Here's a pic to refresh our memory...

The only complaint I have with this photo is that the tiara frame is so obvious, but otherwise a stunning image IMHO.  The tiara looks fairly heavy doesn't it?

She does look stunning while pregnant. I can only hope I'll look half as good when that time comes for me, cause heaven knows that I probably won't feel pretty. But for those who were wondering, the little one is expected towards to end of October.
