There was only one miscarriage, the one in 1902.  There were rumors of another one in 1896 but it has never been substantiated AFAIK.  Anna Anderson in later life said they had a fifth daughter (result of the 1902 pregnancy) and gave her the boot to some family which of course is untrue.

Wow, really? I didn't know that! But AA is not my forte. So AA TOLD people there was a fifth gd? Did she change her story and say that she was the "fifth GD" or was it just something she said in passing? Sorry I reply on this like...all the time, but it's so interesting. Epecially this Anna Anderson bit.

This was when she was in her old age, telling James Blair-Lovell there was a fifth daughter.  Either that or it was one of Lovell's made-up things (he admitted on his death bed, I believe, that he made up a lot of the stuff in his book on Anna Anderson who he believed to be Anastasia).  I'm not all that into the whole AA/AN debate but I think that's right...  If anyone wants to correct me feel more than welcome. :D

You are right I believe. There is documentation about a "false pregnancy" as was posted here. I believe the 5th daughter thing did come from Lovell via AA. It was untrue.

Wow...I've never read his book. Sounds very interesting, if a bit (maybe a lot) historicly accurate.

This is a little off topic, but while we are talking about books, I read this book, that had a story that interested me about AN that I didn't know if it was true. It was called "Anastasia the lost princess" I beleive. And they were talking about Anastasia listening to a song, and someone goes
"What's that song" (or something to that effect)
and she said something like "It's about a girl who lost her doll."

I do not know why this story sparked my interest, but it seemed almost forshaddowing about how her body is lost to the world. Does anyyone know if it was true? The book wasn't fiction, but I had never heard it before, and was wondering about it...

someone brought this up before, as it was mentioned in James Blair Lovell's book they didn't know whether or not it was true. See Reply number 16:

It's from the memoirs of some woman, I forget.  But she was in the Imperial Box for whatever reason in 1911 with the girls and Anastasia was sharing her candy with her.

Oh! Don't apologize. Haha. It's impossible to search through the board for every little discussion. I was just supplying supplemental reading for your enjoyment :P

If Aleksandra had had a fifth daughter, I am 100% sure they wouldn't have kicked her out of the family.

I have another question for you guys. Do you think Nikolai and Aleksandra actually expected Aleksey to live? Or did they expect his disease to overpower him, and that he would die?

I think Alexandra lived in fear that her son would die.

I think they were so scared he'd die, they tried hard to make him live. I mean, they feared he'd die, so they worked to save him. With Grishka, and the sailor nannies, I think their hopes were higher, but it didn't ease the tension.
