What do you think of the chances of Prince Alexander II becoming King of Serbia?

None.

From what I have read, I thought he was very close?
Isn't he almost defacto head of state already?

it's been too long and most Serbians have no memory or knowledge of having had a monarchy

Why odd? They are simbol of ''old'' Serbia and that was the point...not because it's royal...people here don't care too much about royals, except in the magazines and etc.

Because they are Royal symbols and bear the insignia of the former Kingdom. Lets call a spade a spade eh? At least the communists had the imagination to adopt new designs for their regime and not hide behind borrowed cloths. It is ridiculous to see The Imperial Arms of Russia used for the Russian Federation and the same for the Balkan states. Germany and Austria have kept their eagles but removed the trappings

I have been doing some homework folks.
But firstly Lucien, should we change this threads title to Crown Prince rather than just Prince?
That is his title ofcourse.
Anyway, the Serbian State recognizes HRH, has returned his ancestral lands and palaces to him, invites him to all major functions, openings etc etc.
The Serbian Orthodox Church  (soc... ha ha!) has him at every event, chants the Te Dieum whenever he is present, and see's him as their Protector.
The military salute him whenever they see him, even though he has no current State title or role and most official and unofficial bodies, ie Red Cross, UN and others often rank him higher at events than the Serb President and PM.
Remember the Serbs had the stuffing kicked out of them by the Yanks and Poms, with no help from Europe of course  (GRRRRRRR!!) and a strong and stabilizing influence would undoubtably come in handy in these difficult times,(thanks George)
HRH does not want to be an autocrat, but a Constitutional Monarch embodying all the goodness of his peple and nation and from what I have seen and heard, I would not be surprised if in the next few years we will change the HRH title to His Majesty.
