She was lucky to find pleasure in the limelight, while her sister Alicky thought of it a torture. Ella could have made an excellent empress.

Yes, Ella did have the gifts. Like Minnie, she was stylish, socialable (did not make any enemies (except Miechen)) and loved by aristocrats and the common people for her goodness. Moreover Ella had more common sense than to be won over by Rasputin.

Yes, thinking in this way Ella would be a better candidat to be a brilliant Empress, sadly or
happily (I don't know) Nicholas choosed Alix instead Ella :-(

Nicky was too young for Ella anyway. But he seems to be very fond of Ella and spent much time with her before his marriage. He called her his "little aunt".

Ella was less moody and more accomadating than the spoilt Alicky, who lived in her dreary and depressed world like a Bronte heroine. Even Marie Louise. her cousin accused her for finding pleasure in being miserable.
