Recently (while staying in the same hotel in London)I was talking to a gentlemen from Nova Scotia. By some twist of fate (I think I mentioned I had just been to the Hermitage rooms in Somerset House) he mentioned that there had been a lady in his childhood (he was early 40's) who lived near him and was supposed to be the survivor of the grand duchesses....yet another claimant !!!.

Don't know about Nova Scotia but there was a genuine one in Ontario.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Duchess_Olga_Alexandrovna_of_Russia

Yes Grand Duchess Olga. What a life she must have had and how talented she was as an artist.

Ashdean - Your friend from Nova Scotia (if he was in his early 40s in 2007) would have been born about 1960.

Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna died in Toronto in 1960.  She could not have "lived down the street from him in Nova Scotia when he was a boy."

If there was such a person claiming to be a grand duchess in Nova Scotia in the 1960s she had to be a fraud.  Even Grand Duchess Xenia was dead by the early 1960s.

Olga Alexandrovna was "The Last Grand Duchess" as the title had run out by the end of her life and all remaining Romanovs were prince or princess.
