Looking at all of those pictures, I believe that they were touched up.  Alix looks too young and too "smooth" in her facial features to be the woman who had had five pregnancies and over 10 years of hopelessly dealing with Alexei's hemophilia.

Other pictures of her from about the same time, show her to be much more haggard and worn out.

You're very likely correct. According to Lanie, virtually all of the IF's formal shots were touched up before being released to the public. The nursing photos were probably no exception. In fact, the vast majority of the solo postcard images of AOT in nursing uniform are not formals at all -- they were photoshopped out of group snapshots taken at the lazaret. Seems logical they'd touch up Alexandra's face during that process.

I'm agree with Alixz and Sarushka, many photos of Alexandra were indeed touched up...in this photo of her (with Tatiana) you can see her normal appearence...

Empress Alexandra in early 1917, dressed in mourning for the death of Rasputin.

I would guess late 1916/different calendars. It is really sad one. But can it be funeral of someone soldier, or maybe KR in 1915? Where did you find that description about Rasputin?

I found it labeled "Alexandra Feodorovna, a short time after the death of Rasputin, 1917", but it could be wrong...Unfortunately, the descriptions are often wrong...

There are leaves on the trees in the background between the curtains, so it couldn't have been taken during the winter of 1916-17. ;-)

Also, after the imperial family's arrest, they were not permitted to use the balcony, so this photo must have been taken no later than the fall of 1916.

You're right Sarushka...I'm taking in seriously consideration the suggestion of nena...It could be in 1915, GD Konstantin Konstantinovich's funeral?, the dark dress suggests so...

Also, depending on the photographic processes used to develop the picture, Alexandra's dress may not have been black/dark at all. Tatiana's regimental uniform, for example, has canary yellow detailing that actually appears darker than the surrounding navy blue in a B&W photo:

Indeed true...it's strange to see a vibrant color like canary yellow transformed almost in black, but logically this is normal in a photograph in black and white of a century ago.

I could be wrong but I believe the frontis piece and cuffs on this particular regimental uniform are dark blue ....and the rest of it was a lighter shade of blue [photo on left].  Alexei also had a similar uniform with the same cap style...1st Life Guards Regiment.  The gold bullion on the cuffs is also the same as Alexei's.

They all had so many uniforms that it's hard to keep them organised.  The color photo with mannequin on the right is a different regiment.

Grand-mother’s Garde Equipage may be the uniform in the left photo.

But that particular uniform is on display in Alexander palace.... So I´d say it definitely belonged to Tatiana.

Does anyone have photos of Alexandra as a baby. I've seen photos of her sisters Victoria, Ella, and Irene and some of her brothers Frittie and Ernie, and maybe one her of her lil sister May but never of her. If you can find any please post them and say where you got them from. Thank you xoxo
