I have been to Vienna & Gmunden where Thyra lived. The Cumberland Palais is now a music school, but quite large. Thyra was a favorite of Francis Josef who chose her to open the Winter Ball if Sisi was out of town.

The Gmunden big house is now a hospital, but the small house (Queen Marie's widow cottage) is still owned byu the family and Princess Caroline and her daughter Alexandra sometimes stay there in the Summer.

Olga was the one who did not marry. I wonder if she could not find anybody or she was not into marriage. Kaiser Wilhelm II wanted to wed her to one of his sons.

I thought you would do a whole bio with Thyra. It has been so much written about Alexandra and Dagmar...

Maybe it could be along the lines of Ilana's Four Graces. It dealt with Alix and Ella but had a larger focus on Victoria and Irene. I would love to read more about Thyra. There is so much drama there as well as rumor. Plus, just some things that I'd be curious to read about myself.

*Did she or did she not (conclusively) have an illegitimate child
*Having a court in exile as a de facto Crown Princess of Hanover and her place in the Austrian Court
*Rumors of mental breakdowns in the 1880s and 1890s
*The only one of the siblings not on the Allied side in WW1 and her feelings about the war and its aftermath
*Loss of 2 children--to illness and accident
*Her feelings about being the 'ugly duckling' of the sisters
*Dealing with the difficult Ernst August
*Her affectionate relationship, even after WW1, with her nephew George V
*Her famiily's reconciliation with Wilhelm II and bringing his daughter in as the wife of her only surviving son
*Her own spinster daughter Olga

I just don't know how much source material (ala Irene) there is on her individually. Of course, more has emerged on Alexandra and Marie from the Danish and Russian archives, so who knows.

Associated with bullet point #1, it would surely be interesting to know her feelings/attitudes/traumas when her lover was "done in" by the powers in the monarchy.

anything she would have written to suggest or make accusation that her lover was mistreated and/or driven or forced to commit suicide (or murdered) would have been destroyed long ago.

I'd love to have Princess Diana around to comment on this one.

not sure about that. The letters of Prince Waldemar survived under lock and key by the present Queen. He was very close to Thyra in her twilight years.

In the photo collection of Duchess Wera Konstantinowna of Württemberg, this photo is labeled as one of her daughters Elsa & Olga, but I think it shows Princess Thyra of Denmark, Duchess of Cumberland
