When Thyra's daughter married Max of Baden I wonder what was the reaction of Marie Pavlovna?  Wasn't' her daughter Elena thrown over by Max a few years before?  Then to see Max marry Minnie's niece...she must have been fuming over that.  Anyone know if there was a confrontation of the two old rivals over this issue?

I've never came across MP's rage or offence becouse of Max's marriage to Thyra's daughter in Russian sources. But keeping in mind MP's personality, vanity and arrogance one can believe she was not pleased at all.

However Marie Pavlovna might have wanted to blow up, Thyra always seemed a model of calm and dignity - it's hard to have a row when the other person won't play.

I've been looking at Thyra's pictures, and I notice she bears a striking resemblance to her niece Grand Duchess Xenia.  More so than Dagmar.

Olga was a pretty lady. I wonder if she had any suitors or there was an arrangement to keep her unmarried to take care of her mother (Common tradition back in those days)

Don't think so, Thyra was too sweet to do that to her daughter. Maybe like her cousin Toria, she lost her heart to some commoner that she was not allowed to marry.
