Long threads
« on: October 12, 2004, 07:55:33 PM »
Some of the longer threads are almost impossible for me to load anymore. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes it freezes before that. Is there any way we could split up the really long ones, especially the AA thread, or at least start an AA part 2 continued? I can't even hardly open it anymore. It just took me several minutes just to get the reply screen up. Other sites have this problem too and close or split up threads of 500 or more posts. Just a suggestion for those of us on dialup.

I may look into doing that.
The largest part of the problem is some of the photos posted. Their file size is HUGE, and sometimes, people REPOST the picture in replying to it, which DOUBLES the load time.
So, all users bear some responsibility about this as well, it may often do well to post a link to a photo instead of the photo, and PLEASE try to decrease the file size to under 100K, by resizing all pics to 72dpi and keeping them under 5x7 inches.

I'm wondering. On some threads there is never given any answer on the question. Is it not possible to remove those threads?

I think, that threads who are double also can be removed.

And also the threads who are "moved", must be removed.

This forum site must be cleaned up. Or is this not possible?

I've noticed younger users posting huge photos, hotlinking, etc and it's really, really irritating--it makes the thread hard to read since it gets expanded.

Its not personal to anyone. But its also irritates me, that for example when a picture is oploaded to some thread..that the following answers only says:

"Oh what wonderful!!"
"That picture I didn't seen before"
"Where did you get that one?"

Sorry, but that makes a thread only longer and longer..
I think that a thread must only contain INFORMATION and not 3 or more answers like above.

Maybe an advice is it not possible to remove this sort of "emotions"?

It's not short comments such as these that pose the problem. It's indeed the photos and the interminable threads which do. Let people post what they like.

Why not just start a thread "part II" should it get too long?

PS: the admin. could lock a thread once it gets too long, couldn't he, so that people would be forced to open a part II one.

Look, you are all FREE to start a "part two" anytime  you want to. Why should I lock it to "force" a part 2? If you think its too big, start a new one yourself.

Unanswered questions stay up because someone new might come along and know the answer.

I am always begging people NOT to post  huge photos and to NEVER "quote" a photo causing it to come up twice, but people don't listen.

Well, fine then. Just thought that someone might hesitate to make the first move for a part II. But not your problem then, true  8).
