Sadly Count Paul only made it as far as the border. As he had been born in Riga (which by 1921 was capital of the newly independant Latvia) and came originally of  Baltic germany ancestry the Count was entitled to leave Russia but already v ill he died in the hospital of the border town where they were held up because of problems with his wife's visa. Countess Mary was allowed to travel on,bury him on his ancestors estate and finally go on via Berlin to Nice where she died in 1936.
