Discussions about the Imperial Family and European Royalty > Balkan Royal Families
Crown Princess Margarita of Romania & Prince Radu

--- Quote ---Hi ilyala,
realy I don't know the royal Romanian laws, so I asked!
I don't guess that this can be just a minutia, a pointless, because a Royal House represents something for many people in Romania for King Michael's House as in Italy for the Royal House of Savoia, etc.
Maybe Romania will be forever a republic, but it's important to know who is the Chief of that House that rapresents a so long period in Romania's life and culture, this is right for Romania as for others Royal Houses (and not just Royal) of countries that are republics now.
Take a minute to thik about this!

Lorenzo,
You are absolutely 100% correct, in my opinion, if for no other reason so that "Dynastic" question does not absorb poltical discussion that needs to be spent on poltical and econimic matters needed to rebuild the country.

Romania [begining with Dacia] has over 2000 years of history. The Hohenzollern monarchy occupied a rather less than creditable 80.
LORENZO:
Yes, it's true, but why should we forget those 80 years? We should think about all those thigs that happened during the Hohenzollern's monarchy. Those 80 years, I guess, are important for Romania's history.
Like Italy; we started our history with the ancient Greece and with the Etruscans; almost 3000 years but the period between thi Indipendency (17 march 1861) and the proclamation of republic is in any case very important for us!

i apologize if my reply to your question seemed a bit harsh. it wasn't my intention. i have no problem discussing king michael's heirs, i'm just saying it's theoretical and it's going to stay that way.
romania has recently come out of a period of 50 years of communism. in those years, one of the main objectives of the leaders was to erase the hohenzollern period from the romanian mind. and it worked. few romanians care about king michael. he's an old guy who speaks at occasions (with a very strong foreign accent) and who calls himself king of romania. i do not wish to offend anyone by saying that, i'm just stating a reality. they care even less about whoever will succeed him.
again i apologize if i come on too strong. i am generally known for not beating around the bush and maybe that's a fault but i certainly believe things should be said the way they are :)
Robert_Hall:
I do not think you said anything harsh, it is the truth. Just as I maintain that the Hohenzollerns did little to credit themselves to Romania. There just is not very much to remember their rule by other than bitter political power struggles and a couple of colourful Queens known for their eccentricities rather than any real contribution.
