Prinz/Prinzessin = Prince/Princess
Grand Duke (Vyelikiy Knyaz in Russian) is only used for the son and grandson of an Emperor in the male line only.

"Fürst" is Duke, the Russian being Knyaz

The descendants of a Grand Duke other than sons and direct male Grandsons are all Prince/Princess, which is why Xenia's children were titled as such.

This is for a drama/story that a friend is writing - it's quite a technicality

Let's say that purely in theory - a Grand Duchess whom is the sole child of the Tsar at the time marries a foreign Prince (i.e Maria Alexandrovna) but later (for whatever reason, again this is purely a theory) is to take the throne after the Tsar passes. Where does this leave her husband? Does he get a Russian title upon her ascension? And what would his position be in the Imperial order of precedence?

The story would have to be set before Paul I.  After Catherine the Great, the Laws of Succession made it nearly impossible for that to happen.  The title of "Prince" perhaps??

Consort perhaps?  Like Tsarina's Consort :shrugs:

Yeah I was thinking maybe "Prince of Russia". I don't think the title of Grand Duke would have been granted or appropriate for someone in such a position. Precedence wise it might be quite akin to Prince Philip/Albert but yet very different. The Tsarina's husband would probably take a back seat to alot of other figures and I don't even know what place he would have at her coronation. He can't be "crowned" a consort and I don't even know if it would be appropriate for him to sit near the Empress while she was being anointed and such.

I couldn't find an appropriate thread for my question, so I'm starting a new one.

Would it be:

Tsar/Tsarina > Tsarevich > Dowager Empress > Grand Duke/Grand Duchess  > Prince/Princess > Count/Countess > Baron/Baroness

Or:

Tsar/Tsarina > Dowager EmpressTsarevich > Grand Duke/Grand Duchess > etc

The second.  Anyone who had previously been Empress, would take precedence over the Grand Dukes.
