I also have found that there was an Emerald Ball in Anichkov palace of 1888Everybody was obliged to bear a lot of emeralds. Both Balls were arranged by Maria Feodorvna, I suppose.
Can anyone identify any other people in this photo? From the Webshots album I found the photo in:Sergei Aleksandrovich (back row, center), Pavel Aleksandrovich (to his right / to our left), Ella (center row, center -- directly in front of Sergei), a young (and future) Nicholas II (front row, to the right of center, in front of Ella), and others. Thanks again to Liljones.
Another "royal person" in the picture is Duchess Elena of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, daughter of GDss Ekaterina Mikhailovna. Elena is just by GD Sergei's side. The others are friends and courtiers.
Contessa, I can't be sure, but I think the woman sitting third from left could be Countess Olga Heyden.
The men look like cavalry from the cowboys and indians era or "Roughriders" in US history, but the women look like they are recreating the 1800s. Does anybody know what the theme of this ball was?
Maybe I'm the only womn seeing this but I think the woman to the right of GD Elizabeth looks like Princess Zenaida Yusupov. The last man standing on the right appears to be Prince Felix Yusupov Sr. Maybe??
some participants to this Russian ball at the GD Vladimir Alex. and Maria Pavlovna's Palace on the 25th january of 1883:Maria Pavlovna and Vladimir Alexandrovitch:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/lyzotchka1/MPVladimir.jpg
